Silver Liningness Sunday

Greetings on this fine Sunday - the final day of November!  Already!

This was a very nice week of Thanksgiving, and I'm all rested up for the final push to the end of the year.  We have, I think, three weeks left in the school semester, and I've enjoyed it muchly.  I'm so glad I switched programs, this is a much better fit.

As for this particular week, it was lots of fun.  It was nice having all three boys here to eat and shop and eat and play rowdy poker.

The Turkey Trot is always a fun time, I think this was my fourth year.  Wolfgang and I were trying to figure out how long we've been doing it, and we sort of settled on four Thanksgivings.

Thursday evening, after results were finalized, I got word that there were prizes for top 3 finishers in each division, so I just made the cut.

So, on Friday afternoon, when I was out sinning with Louie, we decided to swing by the YMCA to make our time together last even longer.

Here's my turkey trot swag:  a fashionable beanie, a fashionable pair of socks, a fashionable coupon for a chick-fil-A sammich, and a cow!

I'm also showing the mystery blue thing that was thrust upon me by one of the post-race vendors.  It's a little aerosol spray thing of hand sanitizer!  Who even knew that was a thing??  I wonder if it could double as a friendly mace?

And speaking of sinning with Louie, both Alice and Bella received lovely makeovers this week.  Alice first, and now she's so sleek and fast it's shameful.  Bella is just waiting to be picked up, and she's got some new parts to show for it!

I'm grateful for my friendly bike shop.  The staff is very pleasant - bike geeks all - and their turnaround time for service is super fast, even when getting pretty new parts!

Here's Bella in the stirrups, showing the shiny new bikes what she's got...

One of her new things is a fresh tire - that's the thing hanging from her  handlebars in case things looked a little amiss.

And did anyone catch the dog show last night?  Wolfgang was here getting a haircut, and we ended up watching.  I always think of the mockumentary Best in Show.  Have you seen it?  It's hilarious and I highly recommend it.  Magnum has a coworker who also shows dogs, and he says that movie is dead on.

Anyway, it was nice to see the bloodhound win.  Apparently he's not just a pampered show dog, he actually makes a good living as a tracker and has won awards for that too.

But on that note, I will leave with one of the images from the turkey trot gallery.  Two live turkeys actually completed the course.  They didn't exactly trot, but they finished!

Apparently these girls are 4H-ers, and thought "why not?"  The rules said no dogs, but strollers were allowed.  Turkeys are not dogs, and no one said the strollers had to carry humans!

My younger daughter is heavily into the little aerosol spray thingys of hand sanitizer. She splashed out on a few when were in Dollar Tree. The trainer socks and Beanie seem to be very you, maybe the cow, less so. :D

I am always a sucker for gimmies and race swag. Our trot had some after run prizes and awards (plus Pappa John's pizza), but, as usual, I didn't when squat. As for making my age bracket, yea, that's not gonna happen anytime soon. I got one of those hand sanitizer sprays from a rep - neat idea - complete with company logo.

Glad to hear Bella and Alice have been properly taken care of. Would hate to see you dump them for Louie. Your attention to those two motivate me to take SIL's in to the shop for some long overdue attention. She's an older gal, but she still got some moves in her.

BTW - I've watche Best in Show. What makes it even funnier is that I've been to a show and some of what goes on there is true.

Ah... Dollar Tree, that's why I've never seen 'em!
Yah, the cow?

I try not to get weighted down with many freebies since we just jog up to the turkey trot, and then have to jog back home and carry it all! But I do like that spray. I'll use that more than a mini frisbee.
You should take SIL's bike in! It could rejuvenate everyone involved :). And I'm thinking we'll have to watch Best in Show again soon!

I say if you are going to have a turkey trot then by all means turkeys should be allowed :)

The hand sanitizer would be something Cindy would go for, especially as a freebie.

Sounds like you had a great week! I wish they had Turkey Trots around here. I was forced to trot all by myself.
I've never seen Best in Show, but I'm adding it to my list. We could use a good laugh in these here parts.
And I'm happy you're still enjoying your classes. It makes going back after a week off, much easier. These last few weeks should fly by!

Right on those turkeys, and that big Tom looks pretty hefty!
Cindy should do the turkey trot - lots of free hand sanitizer!

I wish there was a Turkey Trot for you too! I'm sad you don't have one, they're way fun. If you're ever in Colorado for Thanksgiving...
And yes, see Best in Show. I'm sure you could use something to lighten the mood in your parts.

A good friend of mine got attacked by a turkey once. It's a long story.

Abby said...

Okay, I want to hear that story. And now I'm scared.

Ouch, I can imagine that being maced with hand sanitizer would not be a nice experience! And after your victim is helpless you could just say you were trying to help them clean their cold/flu germs off their face! Hey, you would be a local heroine!

Abby said...

Ha! "Get back! I've got hand sanitizer and I'm not afraid to use it!! And cover your mouth when you cough!"

Nice SWAG! Though I'm not sure just how useful that cow is going to be. You being the minimalist that you are, I don't see that sticking around the house too long!

Nice that the turkeys got to represent in the Turkey Trot. I'll bet they caused a lot of laughs too.

Brandising hand sanitizer as self-defense seems so......I don't know.....Martin Short.
And Bella all vulnerable in the stirrups with a tire draped on her handlebar? "Hey! That doesn't go there!!"

Sounds like a good week for everyone

There are always fun sights at the turkey trot, but this is the first one I remember with actual turkeys! (other than dead frozen ones...)

Abby said...

Maybe the hand sanitizer/mace was for fending off possible live turkey attacks?

I did check to make sure Bella's new tire was in the right place before I settled up.

I have to say that's some pretty sweet swag

I typically find all swag sweet.
