Yesterday, Magnum, Meego and I went to the Reptile Expo in Denver. No, this was not necessarily a romantic 22nd anniversary date, but it was fun stuff! Wolfgang was away at Cross Country camp and Chaco's not so much into the non-furry things, so it was just us three.
This expo occurs every three months, and with Meego's ongoing herp hobby, we couldn't resist. There were a lot of very cool snakes.
I know these aren't everyone's cup of tea - in fact don't say ANYTHING about this to my mother! - but I really think snakes are so purdy. There were some impressive ones there. Impressively priced too!
It was mostly snakes of several constrictor varieties. Next highest in population were various types of geckos. The bronze medal goes to bearded dragons. Then there were some assorted iguanas, chameleons, and the like to round out the expo.

It was well attended by a well behaved, reptile-loving crowd. The breeders were all very friendly and informative.
All in all, a fun time was had. It was purely another research activity. Not buying anything. JUST LOOKING and getting information!

If school doesn't start soon enough, could I recommend a Boa Constrictor?
ReplyDeleteYep!
DeletePurdy? Not the first word that comes to MY mind when seeing snakes. Although I've seen some baby garter snakes along the country roads out here that are kinda cute.
ReplyDeleteI'll be happy when school starts too. The kids'll be busy again, and there will be days that I have the house entirely to myself. aahhhh....
If I get up early enough, I have the house to myself. Sort of. Once school starts, the quiet is always a shock to my system.
DeleteFirst a comic expo and now a snake expo? What's next on the schedule? I know you like to rescue forlorn pets, but I never quite pictured you as a snake handler. Boy, Magnum is definitely my kind of guy take you to the snake expo for your 22nd anniversary. But when I mentioned copper, I wasn't thinking copperhead.
ReplyDeleteHeck, I've been hauled to gun shows, military displays, train museums... all in the name of wedded bliss. Comic con and the reptile expo are like spa days in comparison.
DeleteI'm not particularly fond of snakes (at least as pets)--but I must admit there are some beautiful colors among them.
ReplyDeleteI think one mistake that people make when getting snakes and other reptiles as "pets" (not even sure if that's the proper term) is to expect them return the love. Reptiles won't love you back. I think Meego likes their uniqueness. I find them exotic and just interesting to learn about. We have a dog to literally slobber us with love.
DeleteI find snakes boring, but my brother loves them. Each to his own I guess!
ReplyDeleteIs this the same brother with the tattoos and the dog named China? If he moonlights as an extreme crossing guard, I will Freak. Out.
DeleteI think snakes can be pretty as long as they remain safely enclosed behind their protective glass cases.
ReplyDeleteI've gotta step outside of my box! I see I'm missing out on some, uhhh, fun activities.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversity! My 18th is this month.
