capable

This week's Illustration Friday prompt is "capable", and for quite a while, I was INcapable of coming up with an idea.  Not because I couldn't think of stuff, but rather because there were so many things coming to mind...

In the end, I went SuperHero.  I'm not really into comic book characters,  and as far as those go, my favorite is Bat Man because he's got that whole dark mental instability thing going.  Because of that, though, he didn't seem to be a right choice for "capable".

Then, I turned to Wonder Woman out of a bit of gender bias, but when I searched for references, she was rather *AHEM* intimidating.

Superman it is.

One of the things I enjoy most about your Illustration Fridays is how you interpret the word. Probably my favorite is Karma when you drew the hamster in a ball. But this is clever as well! Well done, once again! :)

Intimidating? What about Batgirl? Or Superwoman?
Sill, I think your Superman is quite capable.

Thanks! That's the fun of IF for me, having to come up with things based on these prompts. It gets me to do things I probably wouldn't come up with on my own. Feel free to join in :)

Yes, I may just have to draw one of those girl super heroes just to get over my fear of them.

Nice drawing!
Wonder Woman intimidating? o.o I think Star Fire is even more 'intimidating' xD. She's literally wearing tassels and a thong in some references I've seen her hehehe!

You're right about that. Starfire makes Wonder Woman look like June Cleaver!

Good work Abby...I like the color usuage on the Superman suit juxtaposed against the dull Clarke Kent world!

I grew up enthralled with the stories of Superman. He can sweep down and pick me up anytime.

Superman is my favorite of the good guys. Christopher Reeve is the one I'll always remember as Superman.

Thanks for noticing, Rod! That's just the effect I was aiming for.

I vividly remember sitting in the theater watching the Christopher Reeve movie. The scene on Lois's balcony --- SWOON!

Me too!

Beautiful!

Superman is the superhero I'd most like to be--though I certainly wouldn't be celibate, and wouldn't fight for the American Way when it was wrong (the Incredible Hulk would be my second choice)!

Just another comment on a relevant theme--have you ever seen "Unbreakable"? This is a 2000 M. Night Shyamalan film, starring Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson. It's one of the best films I've ever seen--I'd recommend it to anyone!

Thanks for the comment and for the movie recommend, I'll be sure to look for it!

Also, remind me to never make you angry!

This is great! You always manage to showcase such different styles, I have to check to make sure I clicked the right entry! This is like a perfect, iconic shot of Superman. Great job with the hands and the choice of color on the suit only.

Thanks!

Nice proportion and shading. Superman has always been my favorite :) I, also, love IF for being "forced" to draw new concepts - and I also thought this topic was particularly hard! If you're interested you can see my IF entry here: http://almiart.blogspot.com/2012/02/preparing-for-lift-off.html

He looks just like the guy I watched when I was a little girl; wide-eyed and enthralled.

Good job. Your art always evoke thoughts and memories.

Hi Abby, I like the layout of this, the simple use of line, texture - and how you dialed down the colour just enough. Nice one.
