blood thirsty

I just got back from grocery shopping. Monday mornings it's the typical mom crowd at the grocery store. A couple of stay-at-home-dad types too. So cute with their little coupon wallets.

Anyway, I want to see that movie Twilight. I don't know why. I haven't read the book, although I'm like a gazillionth in the queue at the library. I'm not usually a soft-sell when it comes to these hyped movies, and I know the target audience is the teen crowd, but I just want to go see it. Must be that whole obsessed love thing. With a bad boy - a really bad boy - no less.

But there I was at the grocery store and happened to see that they had two copies of the book. Did I buy one? NO, I just don't buy novels, unless it's like at a book fair where some proceeds go to a good cause or something, or if it's a book I know others in the family would want to read. But, alas, it seems that no one else here is at all intrigued by an obsessive love story between a teenaged girl and a vampire. I guess that means that no one here will particularly care to go to the movie with me either. That could actually be a good thing.

It's just as well I didn't buy that book. Work is pretty busy right now, so I need to get back to the FANBOYS and the PEMDAS and the SOHCAHTOA's and stay away from silly vampire novels.

Bonus points - and maybe a prize! - for anyone who knows what FANBOYS, PEMDAS, and SOHCAHTOA's are. The more explanatory the better.

SOHCAHTOA

A way of remembering how to compute the sine, cosine, and tangent of an angle.

SOH stands for Sine equals Opposite over Hypotenuse.

CAH stands for Cosine equals Adjacent over Hypotenuse.

TOA stands for Tangent equals Opposite over Adjacent.

Now, just so you know...I copied and pasted, but I DID ONCE UPON A TIME KNOW this. It was LONG LONG AGO. The other things....not so much. :-P

Also, I read all 4 Twilight books and found them to be very entertaining even if they weren't really meant for my age group. Sort of like Harry Potter which I also loved very much.

The movies are NEVER NEVER as good as the books!

PEMDAS:
Parenthesis
Exponents
Multiplication
Division
Addition
Subtraction

Order of Operations - essential for Algebra I and onward! Totally what I taught when I was a "real" teacher.

FANBOYS:
I believe this is the grammar one, right? For a list of conjunction words (Conjunction Junction, What's Your Function? - I'll be singing that all afternoon, thankyouverymuch)
For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, Still (or So)

I knew Sohcahtoa, from geomtery but Beej beat me too that, I've never heard Fanboys, or pemdas.

In algebra one of my teachers, gave us all little tin foil flags to remember Foil. F irst, O utside, I nside, L ast) as in (A X B)(C X D).

that was probably the best math lesson ever as i remember it a great while later.

How about My Legs (that one will come in handy if you're gonna tutor people for the CPA exam).

About 5 people I know have mentioned the twilight books....I know now I must check them out.

I went shopping today too. Gotta love Trader Joes!

I want to see that movie too, silly as it sounds. I wouldn't have bought the book either. There aren't enough hours in a day for me to rationalize reading a novel. LOL ((hugs))

Ha, I knew SOHCAHTOA, but got tripped up on FANBOYS (never heard of that one) and PEMDAS (I learnt it as BODMAS here in Aus)...

I too keep hearing all about this Twilight stuff - you'll have to let us know whether or not it's worth sussing out...

Initially, I was thinking about going to the twilight movie, but I refuse to spend the $9 or whatever unless I am DYING to see it or I need a perk.

I really wanted to see Oliver Stones W but I saw a bad review on tv so I kept my $9.

Also, my dopey local movie theater stopped showing matinées during the school year! That was the only time I used to be able to go. It was how I saw Sex & The City for $6 (noon show price) and still get home in time before the kid.

I read Twilight. Loved it like everyone else did. I've seen a few movie previews and they are exactly how I imagined when I read the book. I generally don't go see movies in the theater, but I might go to this one.
