there goes the neighborhood

The  next door neighbors have been having regular nightly fireside gatherings.

Over the last few weeks, I've been awakened by the smell of campfire smoke, the sight of flickering firelight, and the sound of voices.  One night, I heard what can only loosely be referred to as "music".

What have they been doing?  Are they conjuring up some sort of spirit?  Evil or otherwise?  And the chickens.  What's with the chickens?!

And there was that full moon over the weekend.  Come to think of it, there's been no such gathering since.

Okay, so maybe it's just been the kids next door having friends over for chats around the fire pit late at night.  They're not even technically "kids", as they're all around 19 or early 20s.

And maybe they haven't been dancing or conjuring up anything from beyond, but just hanging out late at night and waking the neighbors who like to sleep with the windows open during summertime.  What is it about people in that age group being so  nocturnal?

But alas, this morning I heard a splashing in the backyard and looked out to see Mrs. Neighbor watering the pet chickens.  Then I saw Mr. Neighbor out front talking with another neighbor.

Looks like Mom and Dad are back home.  I've missed them.

When the cats are away, the mice will play :)
I have a new neighbor that is pretty young. No parents there, they just do what they want. They have had a few late night campfires this summer.

Have you noticed the ones we are calling kids are getting older all the time, I was talking about "this kid" the other day and Cindy pointed out that he was in his 30s probably pushing 40, well he is still younger than me ha ha

yes when Mom and Dad are gone the partys begin, it's amazing how quick one can start.

I felt like you over the 4th of July holiday. I couldn't believe all the fireworks being shot off each night, well into the night, and many days in a row. Missouri laws are quite different from Illinois laws as far as fireworks go. And the debris in the streets the following days was impressive. :/
Glad Mom and Dad are home. Enjoy your sleep!

This sounds like me and my brother in our early 20s. When my mother was away we'd have parties. Sorry neighbors. I was young and rude!

Do you have any evidence they weren't conjuring spirits? Maybe the chickens were for the oracle to examine at the entrails? I miss these kinds of parties. Good for the kids to have them, and good for you Mr. & Mrs. are back!

They're not bad kids, who doesn't like a late night campfire? Unless you're not invited :/

I was telling Chaco about the "kids" and their campfire, then he realized I wasn't talking about middle schoolers!

We used to have similar shenanigans around the 4th. Then we had a policeman move into the neighborhood. Maybe you could try that?

You have to put up with stuff from neighbors now, so consider yourself atoned!

I miss such things too! Well, maybe not the entrails examination...
The kids weren't being rowdy, just being kids in summertime. I was just bummed to not be invited ;)
