I'd build an Earthship. Just a small one. Big enough for two people and the occasional guests. It could be a vacation home. Maybe we'd airbnb it when we weren't there.
[From Wikipedia] An Earthship is a type of passive solar house that is made of both natural and upcycled materials such as earth-packed tires.
An Earthship addresses six principles or human needs:
- Thermal/solar heating and cooling
- solar and wind electricity
- self contained sewage treatment
- building with natural and recycled materials
- water harvesting and long term storage
- some internal food production capability

There are plans available online. We'd just need to get ourselves a plot of land and get hopping.

This could be a very interesting hobby, and the end result so rewarding.
As cool as those are, I can't see myself spending my extra hour a day building one. I'd rather reap the rewards of someone else's work. So what would I do with an extra hour? Hmm... go for a long bike ride. I have yet to go on a test ride to make sure I'm ready for another 200 miles In September. Surely I'll find an extra hour in the next few months....

Yeah, if we don't get our own, I'd love to just stay in one for a bit!
Now that's a place I'd definitely rent on Airbnb!
