But it is nice, and I realize that I haven't been totally unproductive. I've got all my shopping done for tomorrow's meal, Alice is happily at the spa getting a makeover, the house is relatively clean, and I'm slowly working through updating some tedious financial records and cleaning up some other computer files.
Magnum and Meego both have the whole week off too. A while ago, I mentioned to Magnum about goodreads, a site I use to hopefully find books I'd be interested in reading. In fact, a few of *you* are friends of mine over there :).
So yesterday, I decided to send him the link. I logged in to my account and did the "add friends" bit to get him set up. Doing that, goodreads went through my e-mail contacts and pulled up an easy-to-invite-a-friend screen. Included in that screen were people in my e-mail contacts who were already members of goodreads, and it AUTOMATICALLY sends them a friend request UNLESS I TELL IT NOT TO.
So annoying! Of course, I realized that too late. It didn't even offer up a "confirm", just sent out the requests. I recognized one victim as a woman in my P.E.O. chapter, but the others? Heck if I know.
There weren't that many, at least. But, you know how you end up with contacts just from any old person that sends you an e-mail? I think I inadvertently sent goodreads friend requests to the receptionist at the orthodontist and an administrator at the tutor service.
I was able to cancel the requests, but the victims were probably notified before I cancelled. So they likely got an e-mail: "connect with Abby on Goodreads!", only to follow the link and nobody's there. Ding dong dash.
Oh well, this time of year as with any, there are worse mistakes to be made.

This time of year, the recipients of your friend request probably don't pay much attention anyway. For me, I have found it is satisfactory to downsize the "friend" connections in all aspects of my online life.
I can just see you being "unproductive", yeah right, that will never happen. You are accomplishing two or more things now as you read this comment. Right?
I am also on Goodreads it is a good place to check out new books and a lot more, just may run into you or Magnum over there :)
A Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
I love those automatic connection things. (not). Goodreads is great though. I love being able to keep track of things.
Well, there are worse things to send out accidentally...
I haven't heard of Goodreads before. Seems like a great site! I often read the same authors over and over, so I like to branch out occasionally.
Enjoy your week off from tuting and schooling! I'm assuming Wolfgang and Chaco will be around for the big meal? Anyone doing the turkey trot this year?
Well, this reminds me that I've neglected my Goodreads account for the last, I dunno... year? I should go update my reads and check out those of my friends!
I've been off work since Tuesday, prepping for a houseful of company. I'm looking forward to the big feast, but maybe more so to the rest of the weekend and allowing myself some well-earned laziness.
Happy Thanksgiving, Abby!
Sometimes I have to wonder if technology is really helping us or just creating new headaches/stress. I'm like SR300, never heard of Goodreads, but if it does that autoposting thing, I am not sure I am all that keen on it. I tend to stay away from facebook because I really don't want everyone to know when I liked some stupid dog meme. Linkedin is about the same as well. Social media is supposed to make things better, but I doubt it at times.
Happy Thanksgiving and hope you have a quiet holiday.
Hey, you're right! I'm not a total slug!
Ima come find you Jimmy. If you get a friend request from me, it wasn't an accident :)
I really like Goodreads, too! Just not that auto friend thing...
I don't remember how I found goodreads, I think a friend (accidentally?) invited me, and I really like it. Come on over!
Yes, Wolfgang and Chaco are here to help us eat. Wolfgang and I went a-turkey trotting this morning too. Race report to follow!
Yes... you should update :).
Happy Thanksgiving back atcha! Enjoy some lazy time!
So far, that auto friend-send is my only gripe with Goodreads. Other than that, it's a nice site. And there are definitely cons to social media! I'm kind of glad it wasn't around when I was a kid.
There was no praying at my T-Day, so we just enjoyed the food and talking :) I hope you had a wonderful day!
Thank you, Linda!
I love that squirrel pic! I hate things that automatically email everyone you've ever seen. Yuck.
Perfect, I'll be looking for you :)
