Silver Liningness Sunday

How 'bout those Olympics?!  Actually, I haven't really watched any yet.  What have I missed?

Onward to the gratefulness.  This was a week of much snow and cold.  I'm grateful that it got warm.  Also, the warmth revealed just how much snow we got because it all started to melt which resulted in water, water everywhere!  This is good for the state.

With that, I'd like to give a shout out to my Cabela's women's heavyweight parka.  I've had it since before Meego, and it has yet to meet its match!  We had subzero windchills most of the week, and I just laughed, AHAHAHAHAHahahah!  PLUS, despite its age, it's still quite fashionable.  Here I am:

Not.

But, close enough.

Yesterday, I got in some nice mom time with Wolfgang.  He called and said he needed some new running shoes, could we go to the running store?  Even though the driving purpose for my presence is that I wield the credit card, running is one of our shared interests, and I always find these romps to the running store and the ensuing conversations enjoyable.

The trip also served as my first opportunity to invoke the power of my recent running organization membership.  Yep, "saved" some nice cha-ching on those shoes!  Who cares if my name is spelled incorrectly on my membership card?

And Wolfgang and I got caught up on how things are with school and such.  We are in the same math class - although, thankfully not the same section.  How weird woud THAT be?  He had a few questions and concerns about the class, but I think he'll be fine.

Similarly, a somewhat joy that is also a sorrow is that I continue to get requests for tutoring, but I must turn them down out of lack of time.  I also miss the kids I sloughed off when I started the teacher program.  School, as expected, leaves me with little time to tutor, but in the end, I'll be in a better place, and there is light at the end of the tunnel.  Plus, I've realized that I'm actually learning some good stuff rather than just jumping through some hoops to get a piece of paper.

And on a final note, Meego is about to get a much needed haircut.

Actually, that's no guarantee, but I'm hoping that putting it in the blog will make it so.

Stay warm!

Haven't had the chance to watch the Olympics much either, but I do have the women's snow boarding on right now. Fun!
Love the parka, but you wear it better. (At least I'm sure you do.)
How nice that you (and your credit card) got to spend some time with Wolfgang. Does he have his sights on a half-marathon??

Oh yeah, I can WEAR a parka!
Wolfgang actually did a half marathon last November as part of a freshman class on goal-setting. Finished in like 1:25, set a new class record. He was one of the voices of experience I consulted with. "Yeah, just go do it, it's fun."

I'm sure you musta mentioned that at some point, and I'm guessing I was just as impressed with his time then as I am now.
And such great advice he gave you! ;)

I am trying to picture you running with the Parka. I bet that would keep you warm on those frosty morning runs through Mousetown. I have use an old ski jacket that doesn't get much wear down here but it does do the job and is not out of style. Good to hear that Wolfgang did a half as well. I like his training advice. It pretty much sums it up.

Those industrial strength parkas should be standard issue for all extreme crossing guards! And short, simple advice. Works for me.

Nah, don't think I mentioned it as it hadn't come up 'til now. And his advice was similar to when he's tried to get me on some amusement park ride. NO way!

That woman needs to dress more sensibly, she will catch her death of cold!
A good meal wouldn't go amiss either!

Watched some ski jumping last night, which was fun. Only one really bad landing, but the woman walked away, which was amazing - she looked like she had broken every bone in her body when they ran it back in slomo.

I think I saw the same wipeout - cracked her helmet! It was good that she walked away, but I hope she gets a good checking over. Scary.

Haven't watched the Olympics, but did happen across a post-competition interview with a freestyle snowboarder. She described her run, sequentially listing the maneuvers.

I didn't understand a word she said. I don't speak snowboard, "dude". And don't get me started on curling.....

Way to rock the parka, tho!

I don't really understand snowboard-speak either, but they seem like fun bunch!

I remember the 2002 Olympics when we lived in Utah. Curling was the one event we could afford to take the whole fam to see. Heck, they would've practically paid us to attend. We passed.

I hope to God your bones don't stick out like that! I have a hard enough time balancing without a snowboard, I don't think I'm up for that.

I haven't watched any of the Olympics either.

Also, I totally want one of those Cabela's women's heavyweight parkas. Like immediately.

Aw. I'm glad you and Wolfgang had some quality time together!
