I almost feel bad to be reveling in our nice weather with what's going on in other parts. But after our mini ice age of last week, I'm good with it.
We're hitting the balmy high 40's with no new snow in the forecast for a while. I woke Bella from her slumber yesterday, and she was practically giddy to get out. Parts of the route to school were softly snowy like a Sochi slope style course, but we barreled on through.
And I knew Bella would be glad to be hanging out at the bar with her bike buds.
I'm not sure, but after checking them out, I think these are all man bikes. You can kinda tell. Men are more likely to have *ahem* stuff hanging. See? The little seat bags? Just an observation...
So yep, we'll take advantage while we can. The school district sent out an e-mail warning us that they've already used up five of the six snow days they baked into the schedule. If they go beyond six, they'll need to take measures to make up the lost time.
Last time that happened, they tacked on 10 minutes to each day for the last couple months of the year. I doubt it made much of a difference, but they got in the all-important "contact time".
I hope you all are staying warm and safe! Keep fighting the good fight!

"We're hitting the balmy high 40's with no new snow in the forecast for a while." --- HOORAY!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm super glad you've been able to take Bella out for a spin!
Winter's definitely not over, so we need to take advantage of these little rests when we can!
DeleteYour bike doesn't have bling and jewelry on it though. Mine does. And I'm not embarrassed about it. Glad for you that the weather is decent enough for you to get in a ride and I am not jealous at all. Really.
ReplyDeleteI've never liked attaching a bunch of stuff to a bike. I've got my ding-a-ling bell for courtesy and a water bottle cage, and that's really it. It just means I carry everything in my backpack, which is just a different version of the old lady purse.
DeleteBy all means, enjoy your warm weather! There's been too many times where you're weather has been much worse than the rest of us. (And besides, your warm weather will be heading our way soon.)
ReplyDeleteYou left Bella with all those men? With their "stuff" hanging out and everything?
I was a bit leery of just leaving her there, but then decided to let those three guys fight over her.
DeleteIt's a heat wave! Yay for bicycling!
ReplyDeleteWe talk at work sometimes about what it would be like to live in your area, since a coworker moved there. Seems like you get to experience all the same seasons we do, but your winters seem to offer real breaks, like the one you describe here. If I were going to move, I would seriously consider it.
So true! Our first winter in New York was an eye opener. Snow never melted, it just got covered up with new snow. What's up with THAT?!
DeleteYou are cracking me up about the man bikes! It's 50 here. And now I have to go to Minnesota. Kid you not.
ReplyDeleteFYI, I don't think it's 50 in Minnesota.
DeleteGlad you got out on Bella, I'm sure she loves hanging out with all the "male" bikes. ;)
ReplyDeleteWe don't have snow but we do have inches, of rain. Terrible flooding. Not fun at all.
I've heard a bit about your flooding. Gets old!
DeleteI could have taken my Iris out today, but I walked instead. We are balmy here now after a week-long deep freeze. There were a couple of days I didn't even venture outside because the wind was crazy! And for me to not go outside in a day? That's saying something.
ReplyDeleteI also avoid the wind. It's enough to keep me in some days too!
DeleteMy middle daughter's school is doing the same thing - tacking on 15 minutes to the day - maybe 5 in the morning and 10 after school. Yeah, I wonder about that too. But... whatever.
ReplyDeleteBella has strength and that striking orange beauty - a standout amongst the fellows.
