something to admire

Remember when I logically predicted that this would be MY year?  My fave number is 13, I started this year - 2013 - by getting 13th place in a race, then I turned around and won a buncha groceries mainly because I didn't want to clean my house.  Add to those things our freshly acquired no-named black cat, and I'm the luckiest girl around!

But wait!  There's more!

I broke a mirror.  YES!  Oh, I absolutely maimed it!

It was a couple of weeks ago.  We'd had a snow day that day.  By the evening, I was delirious with cabin fever and ventured out into the blizzard only to get into a nasty car crash!

No I didn't.

I went out to run a quick errand, and when I returned home I clipped the driver's side mirror on the driver's side garage.  WHAT?!  STU-pid!  I  BLAME  THE  WEATHER.

I have never, in 33 or so years *COUGH* as a driver, had so much as a scrape / scratch / fender bender.   Okay, I've killed a couple of batteries and once took out a Sonic tray with a truck.  But other than THAT stuff...

Alas, there it was, the mirror, or rather, pieces of the mirror scattered about the garage floor.  For the past two weeks, it's been held in place with duct tape, rounding out a nice White Trash ensemble for the Civic.  But today, that all came to an end.  I took her to The Shop.  The duct tape masterpiece was removed, and we have a boring factory mass produced driver's side mirror again.

The luck just keeps a-piling up!  As more proof of that, of our vehicles that actually have mirrors, this was the cheapest to fix.

How lucky is that, right!?  It's already working!!

Congratulations on your new mirror! I'm sure the Civic appreciates not having to sport the white trash duct tape any longer.

My car needs a new transmission. Don't think I'm going to get away cheap on that "fix."

Your luck seems to be really holding up! I can't wait to see what the next good thing to come your way is!

Isn't it great when such simple things make you feel good?

Hm, not sure about the loss of the tape on the mirror - maybe you should stick a bit on the new one, just for the look of it?

Oooh. New mirror. There is always good feelings when you are able to get something fixed like that. I've had my fair share of vehicular encounters over the year, including breaking the mirror off the landbarge (I blame the snow). Drove around for a year (or 2) with it taped up with packing tape. Tried to fix it with a salvaged mirror from the junk yard (wrong size). Finally bought new glass at the Ford house at it has been fine ever since. Now the driver's seat is another matter altogether. Cannot wait to see what else Lady Luck brings your way.

They have duct tape for every occasion now. They've obviously done that so mirrors can be taped to cars without embarrassment, but hey, getting it fixed properly sounds nice too. Congrats!

Maybe you should break the car's mirror? Bring some transmission karma your way? That works, doesn't it?

And in addition, no one attempted to break into the Civic during that entire 2 weeks (or ever). It's the mirror, I know it!

Yes, that's precisely why I broke the original - so we would appreciate the new one!
But yes, the duct tape gave it a nice don't-mess-with-me (because clearly there's nothing worth stealing) look.

I considered doing a junkyard salvage fix. Magnum was less than enthused. Asymmetry is probably bad luck anyway.

Duct tape is a wonderful invention - right up there with discovering fire!

My daughter went through a phase of making things with duct tape; so much that we brought her lots of it as a present - Hello Kitty design, leopard, zebra, tie-dye, and several solid colors. She made purses, slippers, head bands, and even a dress. No measuring... all eye-balling. The girl has talent, if I do say so myself. lol

Oh, and why didn't we see the "before shot" of your mirror? Didn't want that "white trash" label to stick, huh? giving us a nice visual.

My husband nearly took off our side mirror, too, after a stressful moment with the three 4 and under aged children.

My daughter STILL makes things with duct tape. We also bought her rolls of it for her birthday. And my 18 year old son still uses his pink duct tape wallet that he made a year or two ago.
So duct tape is the "in" thing. You may have increased the value of your Civic by using duct tape to hold it together. Now, it's just a Civic.

I do kind of wish I'd have taken a "before" photo. I miss the white trash mirror already.

All that was missing was a trash-bag window!

Thanks, and I think it's seven years now!

Shadow - So my child is normal, huh. :)

Abby - Let's hope it's a long time before you have another white trash mirrow, though. Remember how you got the first one. :)
