I was in my early 20's and sitting in one of my classes in college when I found myself struggling to see what was on the board.
I was sitting in the second row, couldn't the professor write better?!
I realized, however, that there were others way back in the last row that seemed to be able to see everything just fine. I had to face the facts. It wasn't the professor. It was *GASP* my fault.
I scheduled a checkup with an eye doctor, and soon afterwards joined the ranks of the bespectacled.
This week's prompt at Illustration Friday is "Eye Glasses". That's a pretty specific prompt, and I thought about honoring it with, maybe, Ben Franklin - the inventor of bifocals. But transitioning to bifocals is something I'd rather not think about!
An artist I admire over at DeviantArt often paints acrylic on card stock, so I thought I'd experiment, having never done that before - myself as guinea pig... or Secret Squirrel... Whatever.

I'm still in denial about wearing reading glasses.
I found it impossible to paint with acrylics. You did well!
Excellent job for your first try!
I was 9 when I got glasses, and had no idea I couldn't see. Only when I put them on did I realize how detailed the world was. Before, everything I saw was a big glob.
I was in middle school when I got my first glasses. Refused to wear them for almost 6 months until the doc told me I might go blind. I've been wearing them ever since. In college I was working a set of mirrored, aviator (aka State Trooper) RayBans. The ones I've got now are a bit more stylish/discrete. Of course, I am now in denial about having to wear bifocals...
I'm starting to have to take my glasses off too see well up close. I blame poor lighting!
I think that's how it happens for most of us. We think big glob is reality until someone points out that the flying monkey is a trash bag stuck in a tree.
It's interesting how eyeglass frame fashion changes, almost moreso than clothing. Some of my previous frames - yikes!
You can say that again. You ought to see the pair the Army gave me. Can you say Buddy Holly?
I know what you're talking about. Magnum refers to them as "birth control glasses".
I've been wearing glasses since I was nine years old. But I am in total and complete awe of your painting, especially since you've never worked with acrylics before.
Your eyeglasses are pretty cool! And so is your illustration. Love all the color.
I've always prided myself on my perfect vision. Lately though, all the print is getting SMALLER. I've been wearing "readers" more often than ever!
Oh, I remember "Secret Squirrel". You are much cooler!
Didn't Secret Squirrel have a sidekick named Moracco Mole...I think he was the bespeckled one.
How was it working with acrylics on card stock?
