pick up my stroll

Remember a couple of months ago, Chaco had that homemade robot arm?  It advanced to the state competition?  Of course you remember.

I don't actually have a link to the first post because I noticed a lot of traffic coming to the blog searching for "science olympiad robot arm competition" or similar.  ACK!  Spy Alert!

I removed it.

No biggie since it was a demonstrated fail.  The state competition was this weekend, and the arm is the newly improved and made an awesome showing.  Once again, it was the only one built from scratch.

What is UP with that?  Building one from a kit strikes me as going to a bake-off with a Betty Crocker mix!

Anyway, I got some action footage.  I asked Chaco the name of the arm so as to give it proper credit for the movie.  Put on your dancing shoes as I now present...

First, I gotta say I love the title and the rating!
I totally agree that kits should not be allowed in these competition. Anybody can build a kit...
You said it made an awesome showing. What was the outcome? Can you say?
BTW, St. Louis is hosting a Robotics Convention this week. The city hotels are all packed to the gills. I'm hoping my 15 year old will get a chance to come watch. I wonder if those are built outa kits too?

Gotta come back later to see and hear the video. DH is right beside me and if I begin to talk or make noise, he will too. And it's my quiet time! :)

I know right? He said one team brought a complete arm purchased from Edmund Scientific. That's worse than a kit - it's like grabbing something from the bakery on your way to the competition!

He doesn't know yet how he did overall, but he's happy with the performance. So I imagine your hotel is full of robotic types. Wild partiers!

HA! The things we gotta do. That's why I have earbuds.

Uh...yeah... not so much.
They are a fun group though. I happen to like geeky kids. I got a few myself. ;)

I applaud your son for wanting to make an original contribution to the competition. Anyone can do a paint by number.

The boy has a future! Congrats to him on a creating a stand-out robot arm.

My youngest came in, looked over my shoulder, and asked, "What is it doing? Lip-syncing?" LOL She was watching the pinchers and how they opened and closed along with the music.

The husband is out of town. No earbuds necessary tonight, but will certainly have them available the next time. :)

Yeah, I added the music after filming, but it did kinda look like lip synching! I'd still rather it did the laundry.
