It's Illustration Friday on Saturday time where this week's prompt is "return". They're homing pigeons. Get it??
I'm actually at the library now, playing the part of invigilator. Maybe the toughest part of invigilating a 3+ hour test is staying awake and relatively alert. So to help me with that, I thought I'd get my Illustration Friday submission in. I got out the colored pencils and drew this earlier.
When I saw the word "return", my first thought was of home, thus the homing pigeons. I was going to draw one in flight, but in going along with the home concept, I instead drew the coop.

very clever
Well, looks like you had fun at the library! Clever concept! :)
I especially love the colors!
This is so pretty! It looks great even with the lines in the background. Nice birdies :3.
Great illustration. In fact, one of my favorites you have done so far. When we were young, my brother built a very large cage and raised pigeons. I don't know if he knew what he was doing but since he was older I was in awe of something he was absorbed in and how he handled the pigeons.
I've known of people who really get into their pigeons. It's an interesting hobby that I wish I had more time and space to learn about.
I also know of survavlists who keep and raise them for food... on an ending note. (My drawing is of the happy kind)
Beautiful! My hubby raised pigeons as a child too! He had cages in his backyard, took really good care of them and then brought them to the fair (via bicycle) in the next town. I'll have to show this to him.
Cool! I've only ever really seen them at the fair. There's just something about the title "Grand Champion Pigeon" that impresses me!
These bring back memories. We had a neighbor years ago who had some homing pigeons and we used to watch them fly away and then back again. Always found that amazing... that a creature who was free to go anywhere it desired would simply go back to captivity.
Yours are pretty, anyway!
Hey homies!!
I like that you chose to draw this on graph paper. Nice!
What's an "invigilator"?
This is a lovely painting. Beautiful lines and colors. I lived in a house once that had pigeons under the eaves, and I loved their soft cooing in the summertime.
Aha, finally someone asks what an invigilator is! They're those people who administer standardized tests and watch over the test takers to make sure they're not cheating. I'd never heard the term either (only "proctor") until a friend of mine told me she was an invigilator.
I like the look and sounds of pigeons too.
Beautiful work!
