mysterious

It's a beaver!  It's a duck!  It's Illustration Friday on Saturday!  This week's prompt is "mysterious", so naturally I drew a platypus.

I mean, come on.  How did this creature even happen?  It lays eggs, yet it nurses its babies.  It has webbed feet and fur. Is it mammal?  Is it bird??  Such a mystery!

Gosh, I bet Illustration Friday is going to be just chock full of platypuses (platypi?) this week!  It's the universal question!

Why of course! Doesn't everyone think of platypus... playtypi... whatever... when they hear the word mysterious? ;-)

Very creative response to the prompt and a great drawing too!

You're so right, they are amazing animals, talk about a nightmare categorising them!

Weird - I was just looking at a pic of a platypus elsewhere today, and wondering the same thing.

However it's classified...you've drawn it so cute, colorful, and lovable looking.

Are they an endangered species like everything else seems to be. If so, I say, "Save the platypuses (platypi)!

You come up with such amazing ideas for the themes--I would have never thought of a platypus! But it's a winner, as usual, it's mysterious as can be! Beautiful rendition, makes me want to pet it--but I hear they have poisonous spikes!

Aren't they the strangest of creatures? I love the way you drawn this! Even the name is mysterious! :)

Great take on this, Abby. As a kid I was convinced someone just made this up and stuck it in a book to see how many of us would believe it. Not sure I ever did until I saw a nature show following them around at night. Wait - maybe that was faked too... Love how your platypus is heavy and floats weightlessly, as if in the mind.

Congrats on "the pick of the week". You absolutely make a case for the platypus taking the title for most "mysterious".

Congratulations, Abby. Well done. I think you are the only one with a mysterious platypus.

Congratulations on being POTW! The platypus really is a kind of freak of nature isn't it? You nailed this one!

Mysterious indeed. Very clever association and use of the word prompt. Dum~Dum Pops suckers have a mystery flavor which is actually the point in the sucker making line when one flavor ends and another begins. The platypus is the mystery Dum~Dum Pop of the animal kingdom. I love it.
