The weeks are a-flying by. Only three weeks left in the spring semester... but who's counting? It's a busy time, and I'm SO glad I am not PEO president for another year. It almost happened, and *whew*. I've got enough other things to do.
I mentioned a while back that we've talked about purchasing some recreational land, and we've gotten more serious after perusing properties online. I should give credit where credit's due and mention that Magnum has been chief peruser, knowing our criteria. He's taken it on, sends me links to candidate properties, and found us a good realtor.
Yesterday was our first site looky-loo. We drove up to the boonies with Realtor to this mass of dirt that appeals to us for various reasons. It's kind of a sad story actually. The current owner purchased it a few years ago, worked at paying it off, built a small cabin - just a nice getaway. And then...
The Cameron Peak Fire happened and ravaged the place. It is now a landscape of blackened used-to-be trees and not much else.
So, one's sad story is another's blank canvas.
Here's one of the pics I took of what was once a lovely evergreen forest
Very tall Realtor included for scale. (Seriously, the guy's like 7 ft. tall...)

Oh, that is the saddest picture. We've been sneezing for months! Good luck. We are having water restrictions here due to massive drought. We look like this without the fire.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't yet been "officially" put on water restrictions, but it seems like the right thing to do. That and a rain dance.
DeleteSo if you bought the moonscape property would you start planting trees? Challenging with no water source? Very interesting!

The "chief peruser" has also looked into local programs for help bringing back fire ravaged areas. Looks like we could get some seedlings on the cheap, but for a water source, we'd be relying primarily on Mother Nature.
Deletecongratulations Ex president!
ReplyDeleteLilacs already??? Wow you must live in warmth.
This year, we live in too hot. I was so glad to hand that gavel over!
DeleteI love lilacs! But what will you do with your bit of land?
ReplyDeleteWe plan to "recreate" on it. Camp, hike, mountain bike... Private hunting/fishing land. We are NOT hunters, but enjoy all aspects of hunting other than the killing part - so a place to do that away from the Yay-hoos with shotguns.
DeleteThe View is nice, but, how ravaged it is by that Fire would mean I'd have to get such a Deal on it, and the Road situation, depending on the Seasons, could be a Deal Breaker if it's not easily accessible. Especially the Older you get, even your Recreational Properties have to be easy to access for Safety/Health related reasons. You don't want even Emergency Services to struggle to get to you. But, it is exciting to be Buying a Recreational Property so I do Hope one speaks to your Soul and you procure it.
ReplyDeleteAfter visiting, the road was a bright red flag. After sleeping on it, the road became a deal breaker. You took the words right outta my mouth!
