the one where we take in a greyhound and Chaco gets hit by a car

I haven't been here since Prom??  So neglectful...  Allow me to summarize

It's not really that I've been super busy.  Just wrapping up some end-of-(school)-year things when it comes to tutees and our own kids.  Oh, and we decided to become a foster home for retired racing greyhounds.  We got our first foster today!

This is Sierra

We picked her up this morning in lovely Fort Lupton, Colorado. As you can see, our Prom snow has been replaced by summer.  There were six dogs in all in this particular "haul".

They've all been cat tested and (supposedly) Sierra passed.  We're wondering just what sort of cat they use to test dogs for cat friendliness?  I can just picture these tough cats sitting around the bar:

"So, what do you do for a living?"

"I test hunting hounds that run over 40 miles per hour for cat friendliness, you?"

Napolion has yet to be properly introduced, however, since at first sight, he took off.  At second sight, Sierra didn't even notice him.  Yeah, some hunter.

In summary, she's about fifty pounds of muscle and awesome, but more to come later.

Chaco came over to meet the pooch, hung around for lunch, then headed out, hoping not to get caught in an afternoon rainstorm.  He was on his bicycle.

A little while later, I got a text from him:

"I just got hit by a car."

Okay, kids, a word of advice.  Don't text your mother, "I just got hit by a car" then no response to further inquiries.

I did eventually get ahold of him.  He'd sent that first text from the urgent care, and then was busy being an urgent care visitor.  Anyway, he's fine.  It was a very low speed crash - guy said he didn't see Chaco and turned right at an intersection... that Chaco was in.  Chaco didn't even want to go to urgent care, but the driver made him go.

He SHOULD have contacted police, but, in his words, "I didn't want it to be a thing, 'cause I've got other things to do today..."

*sigh*  At least he didn't get caught in a rainstorm.

Poor Chaco I'm glad he's okay, sounds scary. Is the bike okay?

Thankfully, it sounded scarier than it was. Car vs. bike accidents aren't typically so damage free. The bike seems fine too. I got to urgent care where the guy had dropped Chaco and the bike off along with $100. Weird afternoon.

I bet that guy felt so guilty! Good that he took care of him, and didn't just run...
You guys are going to be a great foster family to retired greyhounds! Can't wait to hear more about it. I actually worry more about Sierra than I do about Napolion.

Yeah, sounds like the guy was kinda freaked out. Maybe he'll be more focused now?
Sierra is a fun dog - smart and playful. She and Napolion have only gotten to the let's-stare-at-each-other-warily-from-a-distance stage.

Did Chaco get the mans name?...dropped him off at urgent care with 100 bucks, this sounds like a situation that would happen in our family too, Glad Chaco is OK, especially since he had things to do.

Chaco has his phone number, or the one the guy gave him anyway :)

How scary! Glad Chaco is okay. I once got a call from a guy saying my daughter had been in a car accident but was okay. He let me talk to her as she was hanging upside down in the car. The guy was off-duty paramedic who happened on her right after she rolled her car on a mountain road, driving to work. He waited with her until the paramedics got there and could get her out. Yeah. Not the kind of call a mom wants to get. Sierra is beautiful!

Omigosh, well thank goodness for the off-duty paramedic!
Sierra's a good girl, a little weird but we're used to weird.

I hope you have a wonderful time fostering Sierra. She looks adorable. Glad Chaco is okay and the guy didn't run.

Sierra is sweet, Chaco's fine. All's good :)

Ah ... this post fills in the gaps on the Sierra story. Are you going to give fostering another shot? I hope so!

I'm glad that Chaco is okay! I guess the fact that he was able to text you himself to say he'd been hit by a car is a good thing. But as a mother? When you get that kind of text? Hard not to panic a little bit!
