what does the cat do when the mice are away?

A few months ago, we planned a warm getaway for the winter break.  Pasadena in January!  We planned for sights to see and things to do that we can't typically do in Colorado.  And here we are, it's this week!

Well... there they are, anyways.  I ended up staying behind.  They forgot me...

KIDDING!  I decided to stay here with China, the old dog.  Considering she's something like.. 115 years old in dog years, we knew we didn't want to take her to the kennel anymore.  It's a nice kennel, they treat her fine and give her a bath and all, but really, at her ripe age, she'd rather be at home.  So, we could get one of the guys' friends to come feed her and such, but in the end, since it would be for nearly a full week, I said I'd stay.  "Take one for the team" and all that.

Honestly, it wasn't that much of a sacrifice, considering my grandma foot and all.  I've been getting caught up on a few mundane projects and enjoying a bit of post holiday quiet.

A couple of months ago, a friend of mine was home alone with the pets while her husband and daughter were away for about a week visiting some colleges. My friend was absolutely luxuriating in the thought of all that alone time.  She seemed almost too happy to see them go!

I wouldn't necessarily call it a vacation for me, but the guys have been checking in.  Magnum's dad and stepmom live out there, so they're all getting in some visiting time while also hitting some cool attractions, restaurants, the beach...

and keeping me in the loop from afar while we're here enjoying snow and frigid temperatures.

Meego was actually supposed to go back to school starting this Wednesday, so he ended up missing a snow day.  I'm sure he's bummed about that.

China is being her usual sweet self.  She knows Magnum and Meego are away and seems to understand a bit of what that means for her and me.

"Okay", she says, "Looks like it's just us bitches..."

You are a good dog mom. I hope you and China enjoy your girl time.

Yep. You're a true dog-lover. I would have done the same thing. And you have a great attitude about the whole thing. It's all about how you choose to see your circumstances, and you're clearly seeing the silver lining. Enjoy!

I've just returned from 10 days in the Arizona leaving my mother to fend for herself. Now I feel guilty!

LL Cool Joe, I couldn't help but laugh!

And you, Abby - hmmm... if it was cold Chicago, I'd have stayed home, but warm Pasadena - I'd have to think about that one. But, I'm sure it was the right decision - because it was yours to make. My dog is sickly, and I've had the thought that if we left her for more than a few days, she's be belly up when we returned, and then how would we feel?

By the way, I can relate to your friend whose husband and daughter when college visiting!

Oh, nice memory photos of the fellas. I'm sure it was a treat for them.

China is a lucky dog, and what a selfless act from you! (Although I have to say I'm a little jealous that you have the house to yourself. Mine's been a bit overcrowded these days.)
Hope that Grandma foot starts to feel better soon. Summer's just around the corner, right? (Just say yes.)

We did!

As much as I'd love a trip to sunny California in the dead of winter, it really wasn't all bad.

Uh oh, Joe! I had to laugh too, but you deserve 10 days away!

And that's what I was thinking, Anita. Come home and find her there - belly up! That would make for some morbid vacation memories.

Yeah, it all worked out. The Grandma foot, like winter, will be outta here soon. I say yes!

Blimey, when you said belly up, I thought you were talking about my mother. Anyway, she's still alive.

Oh my god, this is getting funnier by the minute! What a good belly laugh I'm having... no pun intended. (Joe, I had to read Abby's response twice, too.) Couldn't help but picturing China, and now mom, well, you know... Glad they're both still with us.

Actually picturing the two of you
