not dancing and no stars

I went to see my doctor today.  I was reluctant to call the office because, last year during my "well woman" check, she prescribed a colonoscopy and the annual mammogram.  Neither of which I've scheduled...

So, I was thinking, "I'm gonna get in trouble!".  Turns out, she wasn't in today, so they scheduled me to see one of the other docs in the office.  Win!

Anyway, I've been having balance troubles - BBPV.  Actually, I've had this for about the last 25 years, so not new.  It comes and goes, and thankfully, it's gone a lot longer than it's here.  It's sort of like being drunk without the giddiness and loss of responsible inhibition - thank goodness!  I'm guessing it's related to my seasonal allergies, in my totally uneducated diagnosis.

Some people are affected a lot worse than I am - nausea and associated gross "activity".  Mine is more of a big glass of wine, not the whole bottle.

But it does make ordinary things like riding my bike or running or taking the geriatric pooch for a walk around the block quite a challenge, so waaaaah.

The doctor gave me some exercises to do, which hadn't been offered the last time I sought professional opinion - about 25 years ago.  I've started doing them and they WILL work, dammit!  And with this down time, maybe I should schedule that colonoscopy already.

Selfeeeeeeee!

On the bright side, brother Guano (remember him?) and I had a nice little visit.  His two sons, two of my awesome nephews, go to school nearby.  Plus, he's got other relatives in the area too.  It's always nice to get together and catch up, even though his time is typically spread pretty thin when he's in town.  If we were more organized, maybe we'd actually get more of the family members together!  Something to work on...

Anyway, Guano says "hi".  His new computer doesn't allow him to make comments on here anymore.  I blame Steve Jobs.

Great pic of the two of you! Wonder why he can't comment here. Steve Jobs lets me do it. Anyway, tell him "hi" back.
Glad to hear you dodged the bullet with your doc. Gives you a whole 'nother year to put it off. ;)
Hope your BBPV clears up soon. How long does it typically last? I'm trying to envision what exercises can help it. Nothin's coming to mind. I'm sure they WILL work, though. And you'll be back to walking and biking and running in no time.

This is only my third or fourth bout of the tipsies. Usually lasts a couple of weeks? The exercises are like physical therapy: turn head, lay on side, sit up, turn head, lay on other side, sit up... Supposed to get inner ear things in their rightful places. I think. Between that and the antihistamines, I'm hoping I won't be drunk much longer.
Guano probably just needs to configure something on the new 'puter. One of those things that's easy to put off - like scheduling a colonoscopy.

This is the year for me to get familiar with the dreaded colonoscopy. Knowing me, I'll probably delay it. I'm not so good with any of those regular appointment type things. I'll go for my physical a few years in a row and then somehow end up skipping three. I get scolded by the doc and then promise myself I'll be better in the future, but...

BBPV sounds like no fun at all! I wonder what would happen if you treated it with a bottle of wine! Would the addition of a secondary "tipsy" inducer somehow set everything right? Probably not, huh?

Hello to Guano! ... I've had others tell me too that they can't comment on my blog with their Apple devices, so he's not alone in that problem. Why can't Apple just play nice with others?

The main thing that keeps me good about going for dr. checkups is the health incentive program at Magnum's work. No money if I don't go. They don't require that I actually DO what the doc says, however...

Your wine theory had not crossed my mind! I must test it for science!

I have 6 more years until I have to get my first colonoscopy. I'm holding out hope that medical science will come up with a less invasive way of testing for polyps before my 50th birthday. Go science go!
I hope that your dizziness problem gets resolved swiftly.

We actually get to see Guano? I thought he was some super secret NSA type who you couldn't take pictures of. Great picture of you two. I get the computer challenges that won't you post up thing. I blame Gates and Jobs.

Sorry to hear about your BBPV, but, honestly, when you first mentioned it, I kept thinking it was another PEO deal. I never imagined that when we were out on the trails. Yea, the colonoscopy is really something to look forward to! NOT. Been there. Done that. Got the shirt. Not much advice I can offer except to smile and try keep your sense of humor. You'll enjoy drinking some really, nasty snot flavored concoction that no amount of vodka will improve. Then they go and stick a garden hose where the sun doesn't shine. Who wouldn't enjoy that? I don't blame you for postponing that "adventure". I'm due for my follow up trip sometime next year.

I don't even mind the "invasive". The whole thing is just so time consuming. But good luck with the six year advancements!

It's my other brother, Hagrid, who is Mr. Top Secret. I could post Guano all over the place here if I wanted to. But I won't because it's MY blog and he got all the attention from Mom and Dad!

I wasn't having any balance problems during our hike, thankfully. Otherwise I would've had to cancel or have you and Magnum cart me around like Cleopatra. Hmmm...

You're not helping my colonoscopy motivation at all.

I hope you feel better soon. That sounds like no fun. What kind of exercises do you do for that?

You and your brother definitely look related.

Oh, I hope the dizziness thing gets sorted, that doesn't sound like fun at all.

What a nice photo of you and your brother.

The exercises have to do with moving my head around while keeping my eyes focused on something or repetitively laying down on either side while focusing on something. It's a weird thing.

Thanks Joe!
