Recall that Wolfgang is living back at home temporarily? He and Chaco had to move out of their old apartment, and we're in this lag time until Wolfgang and his friend/new roomie move into their new apartment?
That's all fine, we've enjoyed having Wolfgang around, and I think it's safe to say that he enjoys having someone do the various tasks of housewench for him. And while I haven't been thrilled with needing to store all of his stuff, we've managed to live peacefully among the clutter.
But now... NOW, there's a WASHER adorning our property. OUTSIDE! A WASHER!
It was the last of the things the guys needed to move out of the old apartment, and they hauled it over to here. This was precisely the reason I was reluctant to get them the washer a year ago. What happens when they move out and have to take it with them?? I'm glad I at least talked them out of getting a dryer too.
I called a guy - one of these "We haul Anything!" guys. He says he'll get it. Maybe today. Maybe not. I've got some other stuff for him too, while he's at it. Whenever it happens.
So in the meantime, we are of the appliances-in-the-yard ilk. I don't want to move it to the backyard in case the hauler guy really will come to get it today.
We told Wolfgang to just leave it in the back of his pickup. What a chick magnet that would be!
He refused.

I'm more worried about the truck parked on your front lawn!
Exactly! That's Wolfgang's '89 Toyota. A washer in the bed would dress it up, right?
:) I recently acquired a washing machine myself after years of doing it at the 24 hours laundry-mats. My housemate, a cleaning freak, washes our clothes EVERYDAY now. And fortunately he also do the drying and folding, ha! Housewench, haven't heard that for a long time.
Umm... You're beginning to look like our neighbors. Sadly, our neighbors keep adding stuff to their yard and likely will never call the "we'll haul anything" guys. Hopefully they'll be coming to your place soon. (The hauling guys. Not my neighbors. Unless you want them to....)
Wow, you got yourself a housewench housemate!
I do laundry every day too. I prefer that over waiting and then having marathon wash days.
The hauling guys made it over and took the washer and a bunch of other junk too! My new best friends!
Good luck with the neighbors :P
My son back from college loaded up his bed with a mountain of dirty clothes and moved into the guest bedroom. It's been over a month, and they're still not taken care of. At least we can close the door, though and didn't need to display it on our front lawn, so we had that going for us.
The title of this post made me laugh out loud. I hope the washer departs your lawn soon.
Clearly, you need to get that boy an appliance!
The washer is gone. I hope it finds a happy life in a laundry room and not someone's lawn.
You don't have Craigslist "curb alerts" in your area? In Toronto if you have stuff you don't want you can leave it at the curb and it will be gone shortly. Apparently some people make a living by driving around looking for re-saleable items. My friends put out their old stove, went back inside for a few extra bits and pieces like the detachable elements, and by the time they came out again 3 minutes later the stove was gone! They left the accessories by the curb in case the same truck came around the block again. (I don't remember if it did.)
Wow, that really worked! We do have Craigslist curb alerts, but I've never used it. This hauling guy dropped a flyer off at our house a couple of months ago, so he won the washer.
