The east sucked all our snow. Thanks!

While the eastern part of the country is digging out, I feel almost guilty - but not really, not at all - with the last couple of days when we've had spring paying a visit.  Don't worry, it won't last.

Apparently, Friday was "Orange Friday" around here.  About a football game or something later.  I stopped on the "Popcycle Bridge" - an old rundown bridge that was recently revamped along the trail system.  It includes painted lines and decals, cute benches, and traffic signs, as a place for young kids to learn the ways of the road.  We old kids like it too.

I don't own any Bronco gear, but Bella was up for the fashion challenge.

Speaking of rules of the road, I got Meego signed up fro Driver's Ed this week.  I called the place and the guy says, "Got number three set to go, eh?"

He remembered us?

He probably had all our information at the ready from my phone number, but I do appreciate the familiarity... and the family discount.

We haven't figured out a car for Meego yet, which he is very happy about.  We want him to learn to drive a stick, but our current fleet is all automatics.  Chaco bought the Civic off us, and I doubt he'll loan it to Meego for the cause.

We're not trading Ellie Mae, she's so lovably functional.  We inherited my mom's 2000 Toyota Echo, which would be great if it were a stick, but it's not.  No way we're trading that either, because... Mom.

So Meego's grinning like the Cheshire cat, and offering to help pay for "his" car.  Since he started making decent money last summer, he's considered possible cars.  He was googling images one day, and I mentioned that I remembered wanting a Honda CRX back in the 80s

So he did a quick image search and replied,

"You wanted one of those??", rather incredulously.

"Yeah.  So??  Whassamatter with that?", I replied.

No answer, just a strange look.

So I'm totally in the market for one now.  Because every boy should learn to drive in his mom's teen dream car.

Ooh, a fake roadway for educational purposes! That's clever!

Just remind your son that whatever car he wants today will be scorned by the next generation in the exact same way.

How is it possible that Meego is old enough to drive already? Guess we've known each other a long time, huh? Congrats to him, and I hope he gets your teenage dream car! (My dream car was a Trans-Am. Wonder if he'd find that any more acceptable?)

The bridge is very cute - much better than it was a few months ago!
Generational scorning. It's tradition, right?

Trans-Am, eh? Forgive me if I don't make that suggestion!

The husband and I dragged the 2 princesses out this morning to help shovel the 14 or so inches of snow from the driveway here in the suburbs of Richmond, VA. Thankfully, we had a sunny day.

I'm on the 3rd drive too. She just go the learners, has had the class from a private school and is ready to drive the 45 hours before doing behind the wheel.

We did a private driving school because her PE situation is messed up from changing high schools... long story. Basically, the public schools teach the driver's ed class. What about there? Your mention of the driving schools suggest that they don't teach it in school?

Congrats to Peyton Manning. Er, I mean the Bronco's! Looks like you'll be seeing a lot more orange the next couple of days.
I learned to drive a stick since that's all my family owned. (We were Toyota people.) I drive a stick today, but none of my kids know how. Someday I'll get brave enough to let them learn with my car.
My teenage dream car was a Mustang. Only took me 30 years to get it! So no way should a teen get their actual dream car. Unless it's a Honda CRX.

I like the Popcycle Bridge project. Great way to convert an old eyesore into something fun and inspiring. nowadays, it seems like too many things are discarded or torn down when they get older. I also don't envy the people back east right now under all that snow. I almost feel guilty that this year has been very mild for us as well (almost).

My first car was a 1967 Mustang however my dream car was a '69 Fastback (aka Bullit). Alas, my old '67 was a simple inline 6 cylinder with a 3 speed transmission. Still working on my '67 Convertible when the time and mood strikes me.

And congrats on the win. I bet there will be a bit more orange flowing through your veins right now. And you're welcome. I believe that few of our old coaches (Gary & Wade) as well as a few players came from our team down here (Texans). And Von Miller played defensive end for A&M a few years back. Since we ain't got any teams going to the big game this year, I am rooting for your Broncos (that, and I don't like the Patriots). The question is - can you get enough of those Nationwide commercials?

I'm having horrible flashbacks to my dad trying to teach me to drive (a grand total of one time out in the stick shift was all it took for him to burst into the house, beet-faced from shouting, veins in his neck bulging, telling my mom SHE had to do it, for which I was enormously grateful).

They sold me the gem of their fleet: a black 323 Mazda hatchback, which my friends immediately began calling The Roach. Maybe check Craig's List for that one? I bet they're selling for about $50...

I hope the dig out wasn't too bad. Watch out for the sequel: Ice!

Our schools don't do driver's ed. I had it in my high school, so I'm not sure when it went away, but it's all private now. I guess there's the option to fully "homeschool" it. No thanks.

Yeah, how 'bout them Broncos??

I learned on a "three on the tree", and my first car - actually a pickup - was the same setup. I suppose there are strategic reasons for having a car that your kids can't drive ;)

That bridge was neglected for a long time and it showed. It was all but forgotten, but now it's a popular place!

Meego would love a late model Mustang. Not gonna happen. Six cylinders aren't likely either.

The local sporting goods stores stayed open late last night and opened early this morning as Bronco gear flew off the racks. I still have nothing in my closet, but there's a place for a #22 CJ Anderson Jersey in case you're wondering...
Love Nationwide commercials. I know nothing about their insurance, but love the commercials.

I've had stick shift teaching duty twice. It's probably what did in our Subaru and the reason it isn't around for Meego to trash. I'll peruse craigslist for The Roach. It sounds perfect.

LOL I love your last line! Best wishes for Meego to have a pleasant learning experience and responsible driving once licensed.

I have a mound of plowed snow outside my office window, but most of Ohio's snow moved to the East Coast too. I figure it's their turn -- but I'm willing to forego all of my future turns if they'd like to have them!

CRX has amazing gas mileage! Back when my brother was in high school his girlfriend had one and he did some work on it and was constantly amazed. Decent vehicles to be sure. Also, definitely approve of learning to drive standard.

Abby said...

We have a few snow mounds that refuse to leave too :/

I'm not surprised at CRX gas efficiency, cute little 2-seater Honda. We figure it's better to learn to drive with a standard rather than learning the whole clutch business later. Path of most resistance!

My youngest brother blew the engine of my mom's car. The fool drove the old car like in a race. My mom repaired the car, and the handicapped vehicle is now only used to go to nearby places.
