In addition to the New Year's Eve midnight activities, we got in plenty of cross-country skiing..
I think Chaco was just being weird here. Typical |
Yes, I realize we're not actually skiing in this pic |
and more cross-country skiing...
along with a fair amount of this...
and some rowdy late-night gaming. All in all, a good little weekend getaway. Earlier in the week, I'd been dreaming of a more tropical escape since it's been so cold and snowy lately, but we really had a good time taking advantage of what winter in Colorado has to offer.
We were thinking we might have to skip it when China's medical issues came up. But her tooth abscess is under control for the moment. Still, we were reluctant to take her to the kennel even though they take good care of her there and give her a good bath and all. I knew that if she was given a choice, she'd prefer to be home.
So, a shout out goes to Wolfgang's girlfriend who graciously stepped into the role of pet sitter. She may have done too good of a job, though, because when we arrived back home this afternoon, China and Napolion looked over at us as we hauled in our baggage all, "Oh, were you guys gone?"
I will
As to where we were, specifically, I'll leave these hints from a bit of interesting culture we took in.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!

Wait ... what? You stopped at THAT hotel? Oh that is so cool!!! Even though the movie totally gives me the heebie-jeebies, I can't help but watch it every time it's on. Did you encounter anything supernatural?
It looks like you had good, cooperative weather for your outdoor adventures, and a nice cozy cabin for your time inside. So glad you had some fun and got to relax a bit.
I've never tried skiing but I hate snowboarding. Cross country skiing might be right up my alley though. Happy New Year!
Yes, THAT hotel! They do guided tours! I've read the book and seen the movie, and both give me the heebie jeebies, so we simply HAD to do a tour.
And yes, we couldn't have asked for better weather!
I've never snowboarded, but I've skied downhill and cross country. Downhill skiing is exciting, but often crowded and a bit chaotic. Cross-country is more peaceful and meditative. Give it a go!
Looks like a grand ol' time! Almost as good as the beach.
Do you all have your own skis, or did you rent them? If I could get over my dislike of the cold, I think I would love to cross country ski.
I've never read or seen The Shining and since I don't like getting the heebie jeebies, I probably won't. Was the hotel tour scary? I hope to find out once your laundry is done.
Did you know that part of The Shining was filmed about an hour away from me on Mt. Hood? I have never skied, but I have been to Mt. Hood :)
Yep, just like the beach just a lot colder!
We rented the skis. We had our own years ago, but naturally the kids have long since grown out of theirs. I bet you would like cross country skiing and be good at it - similar to running without all that pounding.
Given that you don't like getting the heebie jeebies, not to mention the fact that you're in the hotel biz, you should probably skip reading or watching The Shining!
Yes, I learned that on the tour! (Well, no mention of YOU specifically...)
Pets are like that - they get fed, they get walked (if applicable), they get cuddles, they are happy regardless of who gives it to them!
Ha, yeah, I expected a bit more of a "welcome" home!
Snow.... we got none of them here.
I'd like some though because i adore the cold.
