Silver Liningness Sunday

I was at the post office on Friday.  We have a P.O. box there, so I check it about once a week.  Migosh, the lines.  I couldn't tell where one ended and another started.  Merry Christmas!

It reminded me of years ago, not long after Magnum and I got married and were living in upstate New York, far away from family - which was rather plentiful considering the divorces and remarriages and all the step-branches in Magnum's family tree.  We'd buy things, and box them up, then go stand in long lines at the post office with all those packages.  Eventually, that practice thankfully ended.  With everyone getting hitched and then with babies popping out, we all collectively agreed to halt the mass gift exchange.  I sure don't miss it, so this week at the post office, I gladly bypassed the lines to the quiet of the P.O. boxes.

On that note, I'd say my shopping is done.  And thinking back to those olden days, I'm thankful for the internet and online shopping!  I went to the mall just once this week, and that was only to get a gift for the P.E.O. gift swap.  That was enough, and I couldn't remember the last time I was at a mall, even though there is one about a mile from our house.

That mall also houses a cinema, so with the opening of Star Wars coupled with the Christmas season, it's a good place to avoid if you're not big into traffic.

I am still feeling a bit of the stir crazies.  This week's snow storm was the messiest one yet, and it's still very sloppy out.  I'm already feeling sick of winter, and it's not even officially winter yet!  On top of that, I found that my normally trusty friendly running shoes that are such nice companions in the warm months turned total wimps once it got cold/wet/snowy/icy out.  They felt stiff, uncomfortable, and cumbersome, which left me feeling similarly.

I went to the local running store last weekend with my tale of woe.  And after a very helpful session, I came home with these wonderful Altra Lone Peak 2.5's

I'd heard good things about Altras - the zero-drop platform and the roomy toe box.  Now, I think I've found me a new brand of shooz!  These are SO comfy, and they did quite nicely at dealing with the winter slop.  I can't yet speak to their durability, but so far so good!

And remember that radio guy that said socks were disappointing Christmas gifts??  Well, he obviously hasn't heard of the Netflix Socks that pause your show if you fall asleep!  We all know THAT hardship, right??

I could use a pair of these

Merry Christmas!  Happy Holidays!  Merry Yule! Come on Spring!

I bought nearly all my presents online too. It's wonderful, well apart from when things don't arrive. Now I'm wrapping them. The only thing we will have to go the shops for, is food, we are entertaining 18 people this year. Whoppee.

Happy Christmas to you and your family Abby!!

I'm grateful that we can buy stamps through the ATM machine. I drove up to the drive-up ATM at the bank yesterday and haven't been inside the post office in I don't know how long!

As for Christmas shopping, I'm really behind the eight ball this year. I'm almost too late even for online shopping, though I did order some commemorative ornaments for my family and got them in TWO days! Delivered on a Sunday, no less! Unfortunately, I had to do some real, old-fashioned shopping yesterday. The big department store had a line about a hundred people long, but I later went to an outdoor shopping mall, and those stores were moving their customers along very nicely. I still have more shopping to do though. :-( Think I'll task my daughter with doing some of it, since she currently works in a mall!

Love your new shooz! I've been in the market for a new pair for some time now and just haven't managed to get a new pair. Maybe after the holidays. I'll just keep putting up with that little hole in mine for the time being!

Sorry ... that last comment was me. It's early! ;-)

I'm not even sure if 18 people could fit comfortably on one level of our house. Enjoy!

"Tee" suits you much better than "Unknown" :)
The post office has several self-serve kiosks in addition to the postal people. The lines were still snaking every which way.

You shopped a big department store on Dec. 20? Brave soul!

I love the expression "step-branches." Applies to my family as well!

We have quite a few "step-branches", who eventually sprouted several "leaves".

Those are nice shoes indeed. And I agree with the sock choices...
As I have diabetes, my feet feel chilly a bit and I wore socks to bed too.
I hate the traffic, so normally I go to the mall during weekdays.
Love the movies and the new StarWars is awesome!

I'm waiting for the crowds to thin out before checking out the latest Star Wars. Maybe by April??

New shooz! I'm thinking about a new pair myself, but not for the same reasons. We're not even close to snow around here. *Knock on wood*
The Netflix socks crack me up. Back in the old days if we fell asleep while watching a movie, we hit rewind when we woke up and started watching where we left off. :)

Ha! "Rewind" will probably be an obsolete word very soon.

I'm liking the new shooz. I even got a second, regular road pair - Torin 2.0. They were bargain holiday priced, I had to. When you get a chance to go shopping, I suggest you at least try on some Altras!

I've had my eye on Altras for some time. I think I'm going to get some this spring for a road race I have my eye on. My normal trail shoes haven't likely got enough cushion for so much asphalt.

I'd been wanting to try then for a while too, glad I finally got around to it. If you get some, I'm interested in what you think of them in contrast with your minimal adventures!
