I think I just turned in my last school assignment for the semester, and I'm all... "now what?" This is how these semesters seem to typically end. Mad rush of finals followed by a vast nothingness. All that momentum grinds to a halt. I'm a bit worried about my brain turning to mush before the next round, so I'd better come up with something to stimulate it. Even my one current tutee is a college boy also on break, so he's no help.
But I do have things I need to do today. It's grey and gloomy out with snow in the forecast, but nothing falling yet. I can't decide if I should venture out on a bicycle or not. I'm thinking, "yes", and that will surely get the sky precipitating.
Last night, we had our PEO Christmas party. Potluck followed by a yankee swap gift exchange. I ended up with this large platter:
It's a nice ceramic serving platter, about 18" in diameter. Not something I would choose myself since I don't even know if I have ample space to store it in our tiny kitchen. I had my hot little hands on more appropriate items, but they were all stolen from me, and in the end, I brought the platter home. Good times.
So now, to get caught up. I look around and I see that the house needs attention (always), my hair (perpetually) needs attention, my wardrobe (ugh) needs attention, the pantry (constantly) needs attention, the monster fish tank...
...screw those evil fish that thrive no matter what.

You'll have to let me know how you handle the "...so now what?" The hotel is so slow right now that we're all working very few shifts. I have too much time off, and I'm not liking it at all. Wish I had a wall to build... :)
Sorry you ended up with the platter. Fill it up with cookies and gift it to your neighbors. It'll solve your storage problem anyway.
Is it not a fact that a good gift is something that you would not buy for yourself? so see the platter just may be a good gift...
And sometimes a gift is so good that you just have to re gift it, this is where shadowruns idea comes in, one less gift to buy now :)
I remember the hotel holiday season. Lots of crossword puzzles.
I like your idea for the platter. I wonder if I can bust it up and distribute among several neighbors?
I appreciate your gift logic, Jimmy. Now I'm thinking of re-gifting to others who would also not buy the platter for themselves!
Nice way to wrap up the year. Last project is done, finals behind you, time to let the mind coast into the holidays.
Nice plate. Looks almost as big as one of Alice's tires. I've done one of those gift exchanges. Some really nice gifts but I usually wind up going home with some pink flamingo Christmas candy dish that winds up in either next year's gift exchange or a garage sale. Although I do like Shadowrun's idea.
I was just two rounds away from bringing home the 100-percent-maple-syrup-in-glass-penguin-bottle! If not for that, I'd probably be able to feel better about the platter.
There's always something that needs attention isn't there? As soon as you finish one thing, it's time to move on to the next.
Nice platter, but not quite my cuppa tea either.
I was staring at the top of your stove wondering what I was looking at: a burn? A giant stain? I'm so used to accidentally setting the bread down near my glasstop stove and having the plastic bag stick to a burner.........then I figured out it's your new platter. Uh...what do you use a large platter for?
Funny how you feel the need to find more to do once the semester is over. I am the opposite, I need to clear my head, let my mind settle back into place before the next thing hits.
And those fish - how dare they not need you 24/7!!!! :-)
Always something... then we die.
So far, all I've used the platter for was lifting it above my head ala Serena Williams when I "won" it.
Funny how quickly a bread bag disappears when accidentally set down on a hot glasstop stove. Not that I've ever done that...
I admit to enjoying a bit of mind settling, I just have a fear of going passed the point of no return!
Those fish - ugh! I think they deserve their own zombie novel!
Isn't that what evil fish do? ;)
I realize I'm many days behind in commenting here, so I'll just say that, knowing you, I'm sure you filled up all that free time with something productive. (And I hope a bike adventure was squeezed in there somewhere too.)
The platter - it's the kind of thing I find that I need about twice a year. But I too struggle with the storage issue.
