coming at you live from the internets!

My ex is sitting here, not speaking to me.  Fine.

Yup, got a new computer.  A shiny new desk top that Chaco built.  The old one, she had been fading for a while.

Perhaps the worst thing was that, one by one, all of my USB ports shut down.  Not only would they not respond to devices plugged into them, but the mere act of plugging anything in caused a plethora of error messages and then *CRASH* followed by very colorful language.  ahem

For several weeks, I worked around it, thinking, "Boy, sure would be nice if I could upload photos / sync my ipod / copy files / etc."  But a big bummer was that I could no longer do online tutoring.  No more webcam, no more microphone, no more Wacom.  Sigh.

I discussed this with my IT department (Chaco), and he... er... the department concluded that the ex was beyond repair.  I needed new hardware.

He ordered.  He built.  I paid.

Today, I went to visit my online classroom and...

Although, it's pretty lonely there right now.

And in the meantime, my ex sits here.  There are a few files I want to get off of her, but... well, she won't speak to me.  I need to get with the IT department for a cable or two.  But he... er... the department isn't here right now.

I know help is one the way, though, because Chaco says he's got plans for the ex.

Wait... didn't he say it was beyond repair...??

Sweet! New Hardware! Bet Chaco got all the good stuff, then amped it up a notch or 3. Y'know, since you were payin' & all.....Nothin' like spending other people's money!

Yeah, he convinced me I needed a new monitor too. I didn't, but admit that things are purdier now. Besides, it was free (for HIM!)

Aren't geeky sons the BEST??? Travis has created quite the set up this summer...and while I semi-doubted, it has been quite fun to watch him piece things together. Congrats on the new e-ride!

Amazing how old "dead" PCs suddenly become rescuable isn't it....

Mind you, the lasts PC that Number One Son "saved" ended up with a new box, motherboard, processor, graphics card, fans...

They do come in handy!

I'm curious as to what he plans to do with the old one. He managed to give a somewhat purposeful life to an OLD old laptop. As long as it doesn't cost me anything, he can go as Frankenstein as he wants!

Maybe it will become a server for LAN parties or something.

My ex STILL sits next to me. I'm having a hard time letting him go, even though I can no longer turn him on.
Those IT departments are always trying to upsell, but in your case, I have a feeling your best interests were at heart. And please share your ex's reincarnated life with us. Maybe there's hope for mine to live another life.
Love your online tutoring classroom! Hopefully it'll fill up soon. (That's what you want, right?)

Tutoring is like parenting. If I do it right, i work myself out of a job. I *should* have a couple slots open soon, and I like having the online option again!

On your ex... ask yourself, do you really want to live like that? I'm not having much trouble letting my ex go, since she's a girl and all. I just want her to give me MY stuff and STOP with all the drama already!

I can definitely see some LAN party purpose in the ex's future.

What our kids don't know about computers probably isn't worth knowing :) It's a language they learn early and well, isn't it!

Congrats on getting all reconnected and techy again! I'm sorry for your ex, but it sounds like you're better off parting ways. I'm sure she and Chaco .... er... the department ... will be very happy together.
