when things get cold

Well, I am feeling the complete Inuit woman now!  It is muy frio here, has been all weekend.  Single digit temperatures, probably negative windchills, overcast skies, light snow.  THIS is the kind of weather that separates the crossing guards from the bus drivers!

But I layered up good and had on the Frankenstein boots, so was pretty comfy.  I kind of enjoy days like this - bonding moments with the toughest little pedestrians.

Saturday morning, I went for a little-icicles-form-on-the-eyelashes run.  It was sunny then, and when I stopped, I stood still in the sun and watched the steam rise off of me a la wicked witch from the "Wizard of Oz". Melting!  I'm Melting!  MELTING.... melting... melting...  Cheap entertainment.

Speaking of cheap entertainment, yesterday we went out to a local steakhouse for Chaco's birthday.  Afterwards, we loitered around a neighboring shopping center, which houses a large sporting goods store, a large electronics store, and a large market while digesting our large meals.

We got a new and improved tripod for Meego's new camera.  That and the fact that he was in need of a haircut combined to make the following test video:

I know the lighting's not great.  I prefer to not see what I'm doing when I give a haircut.  Keeps things a mystery.

Have I ever mentioned that none of our kids has ever set butt in a barber chair?  Well, except when Wolfgang got a baldy.

I haven't paid money for a haircut since I was in college. All I need are the trusty clippers.

Meego is adorable! Will you be sad to see that baby face go away in a few years?

Warm here in central Virginia. No icicles on my lashes.

Hey how are you with Mohawks? I need a hair cut. :D Great video.

Ah, you're one of the brave ones who ventures out even in the coldest of cold. But I think I remember that from a couple of years ago and a tale of one particular Midnight Mile run.

Nice job on the haircut! I used to pay for my boys' haircuts, but round about the high school years, they began to prefer the simple buzz cuts. I can handle those at home.

No money has ever been spent on a barber or a hair stylist in this family. But when the neighbor's find out, they always want an invitation to sit in my kitchen chair. No thanks.

I can't lose family over an accidental bad hair cut once in a while.

Sooo many haircuts....if only I had a nickel for every time I sat in the chair!

When my boys were younger I gave them buzz cuts all the time. As they got older, I began taking them to my hairdresser, even though I hated paying for it. Now, I have to beg them to go get a haircut. Funny how I will gladly pay for one now - if they would just go!
Meego is such a cutie. His new camera stand looks like it did a great job!
I plan to do an eyelash icicle run tomorrow. Looking forward to it even. The icy roads have kept me inside the last couple of days.

I have never been to a barber either. When I was growing up there only seemed to be one guy who would cut kids hair and he was known to be a real butcher - regularly cutting necks and ears. So my mum did our hair.

Now my wife does it (when she can persuade me that I need one...)

I don't think I have ever seen myself steam - I will have to look out for that effect!

I admire your stamina running in subfreezing weather. I definitely have no room to complain about my chilly runs. I've done a few frosty runs like that and find it's not the "eyecicles" that bother me - it's the snotcicles.

And you're a pretty good barber. My wife used to cut our hair at home we eventually moved up to the brick & mortar stores.

I figure if Fred Flintstone can shave with a bee in a clamshell...

Yes! The last of the baby faces!

You betcha Joey! (bring a cap)

Sounds like many of us are home cutters. We could start a clipper club!
I don't mind running in cold. I'm not a fan of ice, however.

Yeah, reminds me of when my mom used to give perms to all of her friends. The smell!

At least you've got the nickel hair coloring!

I'm actually a little surprised that these guys tell me when they want a haircut. I think they've each tried to grow it out, but then can't stand it anymore.
I'd much rather run in cold than heat, eyelashcicles and all. Careful on the ice!

I also cut Magnum's hair. As for me, no one in the house is allowed to be near my hair with scissors/clippers.

I bet you have steamed and just didn't know it!

Girls don't get snotcicles. :)

"I went for a little-icicles-form-on-the-eyelashes run." You're braver than I'll ever be!

And aren't all hair cuts supposed to be given in the dark!!

I love the editing you did on the video. Very cool, indeed.
