me, myself, and ibuprofen

I know very little about hockey.

It's like soccer on ice, but I know very little about soccer.  Still, I do know that hockey players are generally perceived as being tough.  They're willing to take a hit and just keep  on going.  They're bloodied and bruised on a regular basis, it's just part of the territory.

So when I say the unsightly and somewhat discolored lump just beneath my knee bone is a hockey injury, it makes me seem pretty tough and not one to be messed with.

Plus, just the fact that I participate in hockey gives me a certain aura of adventure and mettle.  And now that it's shorts and capris season, and my injury is noticeable, the fact that it's a hockey injury might make people think twice before messing with me.

"Hockey injury", I think, sounds a lot better than, "konged my leg on the sturdy leg of a table at the library", or more precisely,

"tutoring injury".

I was tutoring a hockey player when I konged my leg on the sturdy leg of a table at the library.

Therefore, it counts as a "hockey injury".

That's my story.

Hockey is far out of my league. I know i'd break a few bones if I even tried it. Hope your leg gets better ^^;

... so this started that Country Western song rambling in my head "That's my story and I'm stickin' to it
That's my life and all that I've got
Call me a liar, call me a writer - Believe me or not,
Believe me or not"

hah ha!

That's funny!

I've only been to one hockey game--it was between the Mobile Mysticks and the Pensacola Ice Pilots. I enjoyed it, but was slightly disappointed there wasn't more fighting!

It is all in how you tell the story that makes all the difference. I like your spin on the injury. That's a better explanation than saying you got it schooling a hockey player.

As soon as I saw the word Ibuprofen, I was worried for you! Having gone through so many injuries myself, I was hoping you weren't experiencing the same setbacks.
I would definitely qualify this as a hockey injury. Hope it's not keeping you from any activities that you love. And you're absolutely right to show it off in your shorts and capris. Your explanation should be "You should see the other guy!" ;)

You tutor hockey players? I guess that is similar to tutoring rugby players (like your football but without the armour). That definitely makes you someone not to be messed with :-)

I like the post visual. A pic of your hockey injury would have gotten a reaction, too. :)

Hockey injury! I like it! I'm going to use it. I'm sporting a lovely purple and yellow bruise, complete with claw marks on my right leg. The dog didn't want to get in the bath tub after digging in the mud and I lost the battle to get her in there.

Hockey injury.
