BUT, I was otherwise occupied with doing actual explorING.
After researching the vehicle model that Magnum turned me onto by dissing it so much, I worked to bring him over to my side. I showed him some articles, we googled images, we saw some really fun things that other owners had done.
It worked. He wasn't yet as in lurv as I was, but he agreed to go kick some tires. Meego and Wolfgang came along to get in their two-cents, literally all they contributed financially.
So that was the bulk of our day. Driving, tire kicking, weighing our options. Just looking.
Truth is, we don't do so well with just looking. We'd done our research, the salesman was good. And thanks to our superior car negotiating skills (mine are pretty bad, Magnum's worse than mine) we drove our new family member home.

Element. (pronounced "Ellie Mae"?)
OH YEAH (click it, she gets bigger!) |

I LIKE her! Honestly, when you said it was an Element, I pictured one of those square vehicles that looks like a washing machine on wheels. But Ellie Mae is cute!
I LIKE her too! She gonna fit so well into your family! And as long as you feel like you got a good deal, then your negotiating skills were right on.
Congratulations!
I agree with your husband's original assessment. Haha, but I'm also just a Nissan loyalist.
"washing machine on wheels" pretty much sums up my first impression too! In fact, I bet I could do a load of wash in there.
In the end, we were satisfied with the price, so no use wondering how much we left on the table. I'm also glad the subaru didn't crap out before we signed all the papers.
Nissans were on our list of possibilities. Admittedly, I used to make fun of these - calling them "elephants". I'm so ashamed...
Okay, I laughed. But you made me when you told me not to. :)
I think you and your partner to your right are going to be pretty cool zipping around in Ellie Mae.
Your acquisition; well done! Have fun!
Ellie Mae. I did laugh, but she is one nice looking ride. It does look quirky - but that's your style. Based upon your description, I was figuring it was going be something like the Nissan Cube - a crate with wheels. Still, you can't go wrong with a Honda.
Whew! I was afraid it was gonna be a Nissan Juke (starts with a "P"). And for a somewhat "emotional" purchase, the Element has loads of practicality; I'm told you can even hose down the interior floor! (Warning: that qualifies it as an ideal college car.) Just don't hose out that new car smell....
Next pic should be with 5 bikes inside. Congrats on the new addition!
She starts, she runs, she gets you where you need to go. I like her.
Thanks, and that's okay. I laughed a little too.
One of my selling points to Magnum was that Chaco doesn't like the looks of them either. We should get one just to bust his chops. If we'd gotten a Cube, Chaco would file for emancipation.
Nope, no Jukes-with-a-P in our garage. And yes, we now have a hoseable car! I can't wait to try it just because I can. Magnum's going to attempt the bike/clown car today I think. Stay tuned.
Exaclty :)
Wooooohooooo! Welcome to the family Ellie Mae!I absolutely love it.
