Took China to the vet's this morning. We love our animals, but lemme just say that there is a hierarchy here. Humans come first, furry animals second, scaly animals third.
So, unless it's for routine vaccinations and checks, things have to get ugly for us to hang out at the vets. It's ugly.
Exhibit A |
See the thing on her ear? She's had it for a while. It was originally about the size of a grape under the skin. At one check, the vet said it wasn't anything serious, just "something old dogs often get". She drained the grape, and we were on our way. I was tempted to take a Xacto-knife to it with a bit of vodka.
Exhibit B |
In the last few weeks, it's gone from dry grape to sweaty cherry tomato.
You know it's gross when even the vet says, "Eeew". I'm thinking that vets see a lot of gross stuff, so to get an "Eeew" is quite an accomplishment for a dog. That's our China - classic overachiever.
It doesn't seem to bother her much, but she's not much of a complainer in general.
She's got a surgical table with her name on it reserved for next week, for nearly the price of that third bicycle I can't justify buying...
... because she's not a fish.

When our Bichon hit age 17, he started getting a "growth" on the top of his ear. It was disgusting, but got larger and more grotesque.
On the day we had to have him euthanized, that damn vet FINALLY suggested he REMOVE IT!!!
WTF? Prior to euthanizing him? On the same visit? I'd love to have a moment alone with that idiot.
I have one of those on my head and the doctor told me to live with it. Great. Maybe you need to take me to the vet too.
Poor China. It can't be fun running around with an inflamed cherry tomato in her ear.
I sympathize with your feelings over this. I think about Lucy's hip surgery and daydream about that new bed we've delayed buying.
What the heck for?! So you could keep the grotesque thing and put it on the mantle back home?
I think you're living well with it. The hair and bling balance it all out.
Yeah, but I know you'd feel bad and probably wouldn't be able to sleep on that new bed.
Aww! Poor China! I'm sure she's grateful that you're pushing off your bicycle purchase to make her feel better... or at least less self-conscious! Hope all goes well!
Oh no! This means you are in for the "dog with a bucket on its head" adventure! Who needs another bike when they have that to look forward to? :-)
She's certainly had better hair days. Never been a fan of the asymmetric look.
Yes! It's worth it just for the lovely "Elizabethan Collar" a.k.a. the cone of shame. She'll be the hit of all the dog parties.
So adorable! :3
Yes, that is an Eeewey. I'm sure the surgery will go well; and China will love you for it, as you pedal your old bike.
Definitely a few notches up on the yuck factor. Poor China. Hope the procedure goes well and she isn't confined to the cone of shame for too long. You might consider trying an inflatable version - less stigma and they don't run into the wall as much.
My two have growths on them as well. Seems that as these Goldens get older, the more lumps/bumps/warts they get. Claire has so many on her it is like reading braille. The vet keeps telling me that they are nothing to worry about and she could remove them (for a fee) if it bothered us (doesn't seem to bother her). Grayson has two lumps on his side as well but nothing like Claire.
