mud pies anyone?

Monday was hot.  Sun beating down.  I'm sure I whined about it.

Tuesday, same as Monday.

This morning welcomed with clouds, rain, mud, rain, puddles, rain, rain...  I'm not going to complain. We need it, and I'm sure the flora and fauna are happy.   I'm wondering if something's going on with the neighbors, though.

I don't know my neighbors all THAT well.  They keep to themselves for the most part, and on the occassions I've talked with them, they're friendly.  The woman has a son from a previous marriage who is Meego's age and lives there most of the time, and he and Meego walk to and from the school bus together.  They don't hang out all that much, though.

But lately the yard's gone to crap.  Just overgrown and weedy, giving the house that unoccupied look if not for the many vehicles out front.  Local deer have been enjoying the all-you-can-eat buffet, but even that hasn't made a noticeable dent.

I'm not one to go all CODE on the neighbors.  If I was, I'm more concerned about the RV they keep parked in front of the fire hydrant...*ahem*...  but I'm just wondering if things are okay over there.

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that the front end of one of their vehicles was completely smashed in, but I have glimpsed both husband and wife out and about, and son is going to school.  So I guess everyone is okay?  Just not in the mood to mow?

Oh well, I've been indoors for most of the day because of the constant drip outside.  The morning's crosswalk duty taught me that the waterproofing in my hiking shoes is spent, so as soon as the shoes dry off, I'll give them another treatment.  They should be dry in about 3 days...

Also, I learned that June has an awesome umbrella, much better than mine.  I've got umbrella envy now.

Bike Lady was there like the trooper she is.

So now I feel a bit wimpy for staying inside so much and inadequate in the umbrella department.  But at least the lawn's mowed and the pets seem happy.

Unless we count the mice as pets.  <-- Warning:  it's a video of the snake feeding.  Disclaimer:  a mouse most certainly was harmed in the filming of this video.

Looks like "Mickey" got the short end of the deal long before he was, um, invited for dinner.
Or maybe was he just tazed?

I'm sorry. I couldn't watch the video. I know it's necessary, but I'm a wimp in that regard. This afternoon I was mowing the lawn so our neighbors wouldn't talk about US, and all these grasshoppers were jumping to safety. I almost wanted to close my eyes because I didn't want to see the mower run any of them over.
I'm happy you're getting rain, but I sure hope it clears up for you in the next week or so. I'd hate for you to have to continue dealing with umbrella envy. You should, however, try running in the rain. It'll be good practice for your, um, wimpyness. (You said it.)

I can't watch the video xD I hate seeing fluffies get harmed LOL. Also, I wish it was raining here in California x.x.

I'm gonna pass on the video. Thanks for the warning!

We got some rain here today too, but since I have to be inside an office all day long, it didn't really bother my shoes or hair or anything.

Our neighbors have let their yard go to crap too. It's not overgrown. They just let all the grass die. On the plus side, it makes our yard look fabulous!

Yeah, we hired a murderer - code name "PetShopGuy" - to off him for us. I just couldn't do it.

Grasshopper killer.
Yes, I need to toughen up. I've run in rain before and that's okay. But I think maybe a good slog through the mud will set me straight.

I'm not really a mouse lover, but I still feel bad. I hope you get some cool down soon!

Ha, that's what I was thinking - that our yard looks good now! Now my hair, from the rain. It looks like neighbor yard.

At least you don't use live food...

Umbrellas are of limited use over here - good rain tends to go alongside a good wind, making the things more trouble than they are worth. Hope you find a good one, though!

I keep telling myself that it's no different than how we humans treat cows, pigs, chickens... which doesn't really help. And I don't think it's helping my karma.

Rain with wind? That's like dinner and a movie, but opposite.

You can put a few traps in the neighbor's yard and save on the meal bill at the pet store.

By the way, do you get a weekly supply and store them in the fridge or something? How often does the snake need a "meal."

You can probably tell that I'm the one who watched the video twice and told my 12 year old daughter to come watch, too. :)

Yay for Anita for watching! And Yay for Anita Jr.!

The snake eats once a week. We get the mice from the reptile store where they are bred solely for food. Customers can buy different sizes, these are mediums known as "hoppers". The guys at the store will "whack" them for us and wrap them in plastic. Then we keep them in the freezer until "Sunday Brunch".

Anita Jr. and I expect an occasional snake update. :)

By the way, what's its name?
