Shades

This week's Illustration Friday prompt is "shades", so I decided to pay homage to my local motorcycle cops.

I've mentioned how they sometimes come out and watch my back at the crosswalk.  My friend who volunteers for school district security says I should call them often and tell them how bad the traffic is, but I never do.  I think they've got more important things to do.

Still, they pop by now and then and have quite a lucrative time, and I appreciate that.

Since my last couple of IF submissions have been headless people, I thought I would hone in and do a head shot with this one.  I'm all about the dramatic cropping.

He looks like he means business... in a friendly way. Good to know your local law enforcement has your back at the crosswalk.

Motorcycle cops are a rare sight around these parts. Come to think of it, I only ever remember seeing them at funeral processions when cars are traveling from the funeral service to the cemetary.

I love your dramatic cropping; and it's always amazing! :)

Awesome, once again! Motorcycle cops seem so intimidating, don't they? But put that same cop on a bicycle and.... yeah... not quite the same.
BTW, I've been wondering... how long does it take you to whip up an 'illustration', and what size paper/canvas do you use, and what do you do with them all? :)

How sad, only at funerals... Around here, they're not out much during colder months, but I expect to see some soon :D

Thanks Indigene!

Beautiful illustration! Motorcycle cops have a really dangerous job patrolling the streets on their bikes like that.

So true! Bicycle cops just don't cut it intimidation-wise.

This took about 3 hours. It's a 9"x12" acrylic. Most of the illustration friday stuff is 9"x12". I also have some 11"x14" canvas or, when I get really wild, some 16"x20"! They're all currently stashed under my desk :/

Thanks for asking!

It's actually pretty awesome when they come out. They charge right through the bad traffic to go after the "perps". I often think they won't go after some because it's too dangerous, but they do!

Definitely great dramatic cropping. Love the bold contrasts and that great helmet.

We have a lot of bicycle cops in our town, who are way way less intimidating. With the motorcycle ones, it's the helmets and sunglasses, on top of the bullet-proof vests that make them so scary. This illustration conveys that all very well. And nice cropping!

Great cop shot. You definitely have a flair for the law enforcement types. Motorcycle cops have a certain bad-a%% look to them that seems to intimidate most people. Not quite the same mental picture on a 12 speed.

Thanks Cindy. There's just something authoritative about a helmet with a mic!

Thanks, I had fun painting this - trying to get the whole "badassness" of them!

As much as I advocate for bicycles, I feel they're just not so fitting for "da cops".
