Melt

I decided to play some Illustration Friday today.  It's been quite a while.  The prompt is "melt".  I figured everyone and their grandma would draw ice cream or snowmen, so I did a welder with neither ice cream nor snow.

I've known a few welders in my time.  Some were robots, some were human.  The robots were graceful and high-tech, but the humans were true artists.  Frame angle not quite right?  Throw a damp rag right THERE.  Corner not quite square?  Clamp this, weld that.

And they seemed to truly enjoy their work.  Pull down the mask and enter another world where it was just them and melting metal until their masterpieces were finished.  I don't think the robots had as much fun.

Yay! An Illustration Friday pic! Must be summer break.... :)
As usual, great job! I'm sure you're the only one to choose a welder for your drawing. I find welding fascinating, but I couldn't do it. I don't have patience for that kind of thing. I'd much rather feed 450 people in an hour and a half. (I think I was melting by the end of it.) But I know some welders who could never do what I do...

I never thought of welders as artists. It's pretty cool to learn that side of their job through your art and words!

Actually, I've done a bit of welding and I have to admit it is an art. Not everyone can weld steel or metal and make it work. Something about those bright sparks and flowing metal makes it almost magical. I know a couple of welders who could qualify as artists. I even wound up with a few pictures of metal art from my recent Pate trip that were unique.
