pure inspiration!

Today's a good day.

Not only is it trash day, but the donation pickup truck came and hauled away three good sized boxes of junk.  I have these two big totes that I keep in a remote closet.  Unwanted stuff goes in there, and once the totes are overflowing, I call for a pickup.  Big guys with a big truck come take the stuff off the porch, and the cycle resumes.  It's lovely, really.

So I was feeling lighter and freer today, but then a friend shared this photo of something he saw while out driving yesterday

I was aghast.

That TV!  It looks so familiar!  It looks just like the one that has been sitting in our garage for months because we haven't figured out how to get it to Best Buy, who takes in unwanted old TVs!  We haven't figured out how to get it to Best Buy because the TV weighs a freaking ton!  Okay, a slight exaggeration, but only slight.  And yes, Best Buy will send their big guys with a big truck over for a small *GAG!* fee.

In fact, it took entire Team MagnumChacoWolfgang to get the TV up seven stairs and into the garage.  Granted, we aren't a family of powerlifters, but still!

Our next phase of Operation Mega TV Removal is getting the TV into Ellie Mae, who with her ample booty, can handle things just fine from there.  But we  haven't come up with a real satisfying way to get the TV into Ellie Mae, so it sits.  But we're all, "Oh we're engineers, this will be easy" (you hafta say it all nasally nerdy)

And then I see this photo of this beater of a Subaru with a big a&& TV on the roof!?

Okay, the TV dilemma hasn't exactly been hogging our every thought, but I'm not sure of a good cheap and safe way to get the TV into the back of a car, let alone onto the top of one.

It's pure inspiriation!

... or it's PhotoShop.

We had one of those TVs, too! We were lucky that a gamer happened by and took it! Good for your inspiration. It comes at the most unique times, but we have to jump on it because it doesn't hang around for long! Nice post! Stopping by from Mama Kat's.

Thanks for the link to the big guys with a big truck. I want them to come haul away some of my stuff. Do you think they travel this far?
And wouldn't that be somethin' if the guys with the blue car could come pick up your tv and leave you a tax receipt. Looks to me like they're pros....

All you had to do was take the TV to the curb and it would have been stolen within hours.

Know any gamers with a forklift?

I think those big guys and their big trucks are all over the place! Too bad guys with beater cars and tie-downs don't have a website.

We've seriously thought of that. Our luck, someone would come along and break their back or smash their foot and sue us.

I dunno ... that car in the photo barely looks up to the challenge! It seems to be drooping under the weight of that television! And what is wrong with us in this country when our televisions are nearly as big as a car? (Says the woman whose family used to have one pretty much just like that one!)

Pffft. We see that kind of "Engineering" all the time down here. Especially on the weekend when people hit the garage sales in the neighborhood. You'd be amazed how much stuff you can strap down on the roof of your Escort with a bungee cord and some duct tape. Reminds me of when we bought our first big Sony 23 inch TV at the PX in Germany and we had to get it home in our '72 Super Beetle.

I really am curious as to how he got it on top of that car. Motorized hoist? Crane? Steroids??

I used to have a little Plymouth Colt that I sold to a hunter friend. In less than a week's time, he had a dead deer strapped to the top of it.

Yikes! That does not look like a safe way to move that huge TV! What do I know, though? I'm the type who can crash into a garage backing out of it.

Yep, that's why I back IN to our garage.

It's funny how big older tv ares compared to now. I am way too lazy to transport anything on the top of my car. Seems like too much work.

I think I'm too old to move giant tvs on top of my car. With age, wisdom, right? I've thought about searching for caches in the woods before. Looks fun. Except I'm still experiencing the April cold snap. Maybe later :)

Abby said...

Yes, in some cases, smaller is better.

In my wisdom, I just want the thing out of the garage.
Searching for caches is strangely fun. I bet if you were to PLACE a cache, it would be a very fun find!

Due to the fact that there's this thing called gravity, I'm guessing Photoshop.

Those enormous tvs were so popular...nobody ever considered we might need to get rid of them. Timeless pieces of furniture. Or so we thought.
