Silver Liningness Sunday

Late to the presses!  Happy March!  We're freezing still!

Yes, this was a very snowy and cold week, but still plenty good.  My paternal in-laws were here visiting today, so I was otherwise occupied away from getting my silver liningness post in sooner.  It was a nice visit, no shouting  matches ensued!

We saw plenty of Chaco and Wolfgang this weekend.  They were here all day to see the grandparents and stuck around for some gaming.  They'd stopped by on Friday.  End of the month = grocery money time.  The fridge is working for Chaco, but he's  not sure what his roommates are eating now.

As mentioned, we had a fun day yesterday doing the winter percussion thing and finding the wildlife refuge.  I'd never heard of winter percussion before Meego joined up with them this year, so it was fun to see what it's about, and he's having fun with it too.  The kids did a nice job.

We watched several teams perform and it was all very entertaining.  I couldn't  help but feel how NOT band booster parents we are.  Kinda like  how I don't put the Honor Student bumper stickers on the cars, while I'm happy to support the music programs and the ensembles, I don't feel a need to wear my status on my sleeve... or on my back a la:

I covertly snapped the pic of a couple in front of us, check it out.  It's safe to say that I will not be in the bleachers wearing my "Band Mom" t-shirt while sitting next to my "Band Dad" man.  Those kids are in high school!  But, to each her own.

Other than that, it seems it was mostly a very wintry week.  Meego didn't have one full day of school all week - either a full on snowday or delayed start.  Even the university was closed on Monday.  I think the district is getting precariously close to eating up all the snow days and having to make up time at the end of the year, but I haven't heard anything yet.

But with the snow, I  managed to get plenty done, which helped make for plenty of "free time" for this rather busy weekend.  I have not ridden any bicycles in over a week, I think I'm starting to have withdrawals!

So I'm glad to be finished with February.  I'm sure there's still more snow and cold to be had before it's all said and done, but it could always be worse. And I've not been stung by a bee in a long long time!

Hang on. Winter is almost over. A couple more winter storms/polar vortexes and the bees will be back out looking for you.

What? No band shirts? What kind of band supporter are you? Haven't you already ponied up $$$ for the shirt/hat/stickers? Our band booster shirts are still in the closet from Marching Band days (nice polo shirt, really obnoxious colors). Some parents were really into the whole band parent schtick (including banners, pompoms). I think one of the real reasons they did it was to embarrass their kids.

I'm glad to be done with February too. I'm SO sick of snow and cold! I'm glad the kids are doing something fun with their winter. Maybe I should start banging on some things too?

I think we are a bit like you in that we love to support our kids, but don't wear the t-shirt. Don't get too outspoken, though, or you might end up with t-shirts saying "Banned Mum" and "Banned Dad"!

I'm a bit fearful that the bees will be back with a vengeance.
There are hoodies, button-downs, t-shirts, probably pom poms and banners too. I can't afford all that and the therapy Meego would need down the road.

It's been a rough winter for many, and really we've had it pretty good up 'til now. Banging on things through the cold, dark months was a brilliant idea.

HaHa! You're probably right. I don't want that shirt either!

Ha, RC. I know plenty of parents who should be wearing Banned Mom and Dad.
Our high school has had a winter drum line for a few years now. I think the kids like the variety. I attended one marching contest, one football game, and both concerts. Didn't wear a band shirt any of the times. I'm happy some parents are very into their kids' activities, 'cuz then I don't have to do anything but watch.
We did not get any measurable snow until March arrived, and now it's dumping on us. ugh. I'm ready for spring!
Hope you're able to get out on your bike(s) soon. Surely we're getting close!

Thanks for the reminder of the perks of winter ... no BEES. Or mosquitos! But yeah, I really can't complain either. I think we've had about a third of the snowfall we got last year. (They're apparently getting all of our snow on the east coast.)

I wouldn't wear one of those band parent t-shirts either. But who am I to judge? In all of our kids' years of sports, there were plenty of parents with team sweatshirts, t-shirts, etc. proclaiming "Katie's mom" or some such thing. I guess I always thought it kind of put pressure on the kid. If someone's going to wear clothing with your name on it, you'd better be something to brag about.

I can remember some parents at cross country meets all spandexed up like they were racing too, and I never really understood that either, but maybe their kids liked/expected it.
It's snowing as I type :(

I'd much rather see the parents going overboard with the booster gear than not showing up at all. I think Meego prefers that we don't go all zealot, and we're happy to comply!
