all who wander are not lost

But then there are those few...

We hit the great outdoors yesterday!  We decided to go check out a state park we'd yet to check out.  It's a relatively new recreational spot, located at the base of Cheyenne Mountain.  I know that running races are sometimes scheduled out there, and they've got some campsites, but we just went to hike around.

Wolfgang joined us, but Chaco had a meeting, so it was just us four.  We decided to take our chances and not register at the trailhead.  Where's the adventure in that??  I did have on my hot pink shoes, though, just in case we needed them for a beacon for Search and Rescue.

And actually, it would be pretty tough to get lost in there, with all of the various landmarks plus the maps and trail markers.  I'm thinking there were a few mountain lions watching us too.

We didn't come across many others either.  A couple of hikers at one point and some guys on mountain bikes, but that was pretty much it.

Nice day.  Not lost.

Wow. Not registering at the trailhead? Way to throw caution to the wind. With those shoes, they could probably spot you from a mile up. Looks like a beautiful day for a hike on the trails. I assume winter has finally left the building?

You can register at the trailheads? Not something I would have thought to do. Considering I have no bright pink shoes, and little sense of direction, I may want to register the next time... (and I HOPE there's a next time.)
The first thing I noticed in your pictures was Magnum wearing a back pack. Aren't YOU usually the pack mule?

I've really got to find more balance in my life. I read through your recent posts and burst out laughing about you catching up with the bike lady. Thanks for making my day even better. Always fun to see what you've been up to :)

Looks like perfect weather for a hike. Not that I'm the hiking type which explains my fat belly and high blood pressure.

Nice to see I'm not the only one that likes to flash it up a bit on the Wardrobe front. :D

You've done something right in your parenting. Your boys always seem so willing to participate in the family fun. Glad you didn't get eaten by a mountain lion and that you didn't get lost!

That looks really gorgeous. No pics of the mountain lions?

Having actually BEEN lost on other adventures, it's recognizably nice to not be lost.

We could actually use a bit more of winter. The talk around the water cooler is predicting what's gonna burn this year.

Yeah, that whole register thing kinda creeps me out - like rangers are gonna sift through *poop* looking for MY remains??! Not doing it...
And, not to worry, my backpack was bigger :)

Thanks for stopping by and including me in your balance, Linda!

I bet you'd be a great hiking guide. The anti-camo!

They are good little troopers most of the time. Maybe it's the possibility of being eaten that entices them.

I've heard they hide really well, and if we knew how many there were, we'd freak. Works for me.

I'm glad I didn't see you and your family on the news as a "lost" family! Pink shoes, a backpack (hopefully filled with water and a few snacks), and a snow-less day... Maaaybe you get a pass for not registering.
