Silver Liningness Sunday

Lovely sunny Sunday morning to all!  It was a bit chilly - mid 30's - when I headed out for a bike ride earlier.  The sun made it feel nice and friendly, but I did break out the foot jackets.

Another good week is in the books.  We're about halfway through the semester at the university.  Mid-term exams (I really only had one) went smoothly.  Grades were just posted, and I'm happy with how I did.  I felt that it went well, but there's always that nagging feeling that I'd done something stupid that messed everything up after the stupid thing.  pffffft.  math.

Meego had his first middle school band concert this week, so here's the token grainy cell phone pic from the cheap seats:

They sounded really good, and their progress is noticeable.  The band program has dwindled over the years, and is not as big as it was when Chaco and Wolfgang were there.  In fact, I noticed that we didn't need to sit in the cheap seats as there were better ones still unoccupied.  But Meego is used to us sitting in this spot, so we assumed our positions so he'd see us when they made the grand entrance.

I did a bit of grocery shopping with Wolfgang yesterday.  Always nice to spend some time with either college boy, even if just selecting pop tarts.

And I'd already mentioned the backpack and stuffings I won earlier this week.  Wolfgang confirmed that, yes, the orangish thing in the photo is a plastic food container.  It's still a mystery as to why it's shaped like a fat peanut.

Other than warmth, what is the purpose of those foot jackets. Can you walk in them?

Kinda sad to hear that the band program is dwindling. You always hear how learning music benefits kids in so many other areas. You'd think band programs would be exploding! Well, good to know that Meego is still active and dedicated!

Their purpose is just to keep the tootsies warm while bike riding. They go over your shoes and fasten in the back with velcro and don't have any cushioning, so not very good for walking.

It's still pretty good, but it used to be that nearly EVERY kid took band at that school. Interest has slowed. They just got a new band director and he seems enthusiastic. Maybe he can rebuild. Onward!

oooohhh. 30 degrees on a bike ride is pretty chilly. More power to you! And congrats on a good exam grade!
Must be school concert band week. Both Chip and Amp's concerts were this week. I have the same grainy cell phone pics. I hope their director can spark some enthusiasm among non-band members to get them involved. It really is beneficial to the kids, IMO anyway. Even so, it's nice Meego has a platform to play, and supportive parents who are willing to give up the good seats so that he can spot his fans. :)

Footjackets! I could have used some of those today in the pumpkin patch, which was a bit cold and muddy.

Glad you are pleased with your exam results. You are doing great.

I think it's good to be part of a group effort, and band participation is a great way for kids to do that. We'll see what New Guy does.

I'm loving me some foot jackets! They sit in a box for most of the year, but when I need them, they're SO nice.

Thanks CiCi. My tuting life helped prepare me for studentdom. Now I have to practice what I've been preaching.

Those foot jackets are odd - they look like a new version of the old gaiters that people used to wear!

Is Meego going to branch out in his sax playing - a bit of jazz or something, maybe?

Glad your exam results were good.

What is it with pop tarts? I've never had one, am I missing out on something delicious?

The foot jackets are a bit like gaiters with toes.
Meego has branched out by playing bass guitar in jazz band. Where did we go wrong? ;)

Come to think of it, I've never had a pop tart either!

You have kids and you've never had a Pop Tart!? LL has an excuse because he's across the pond. I think you should splurge on box. Get brand name, not generic. Pop it into the toaster, and you've got a fruity, sweety, pie crustery snack... unless you get chocolate or cinnamon flavored. I know, TMI.

Anyway, your chilly week sounds like it went well. Good for you in getting a good grade. I can't imagine otherwise.

Too bad the orchestra numbers are decreasing. Our local elementary school's 5th grade exploratory strings class was discontinued a few years ago. Budget cuts.

No, I've never had a pop tart! Never even bought any before they moved out. Such a sheltered life!

There were times I wished that the third grade recorder budget got cut.

lol oh yeah, recorders, right
