day 1

Smiles
Puppies
Rain
Ice Cream
No Sleeves

Spring break, YAY!  Officially, it doesn't start until next Monday, but elementary and middle school kids don't have school today or tomorrow either.  Practicing for spring break?

It was just two days ago that I realized there was no school today or tomorrow.  Being an Outsider crossing guard, I don't pay that close attention to the elementary school schedule.  I usually find out inadvertently from one of the kids or from noticing some reference when I do my weekly e-mail purge.  I'm happy to say that I have yet to go to the crosswalk on a non-school day and then wonder why no one is going to school, not even cars headed for the Kiss 'n' Ditch.  But I admit that I've come close on a couple of occasions!

So never mind the fact that there is a swirling winter storm headed straight for us.  The calendar says it's spring, the school schedule says it's spring...

I say SPRING!  DAMMIT.  I'm dreaming of being someplace tropical.  With beaches and flowers, warmth and sun.

Track season has begun for the high school.   Wolfgang's had two meets, but one was cancelled on account of snow *sigh*.  We'll see if this weekend's suffers the same fate.  He does the mile and the 4x800.  Way way way back when, when I ran high school track, I was a sprinter, and we have an ongoing friendly rivalry over who the best track athletes are - sprinters or distance runners.  Maybe it's neither.  Maybe it's the shot puters and discus throwers - things neither of us will likely ever be good at!

Lately, however, I've been flexing my housewifery talents.  Spring brings that out in me.  My floors are to die for.  Really, you could eat off 'em.

But don't, that would be weird.  And a bit rude.

Happy Spring!!
.

Do we do this EVERY year? Look at the calendar and see that it says spring and then look out the window and get indignant because the weather isn't acting like spring? I think we do.

My coworker who is moving to Colorado was just singing its praises and telling me how eight inches of snow might fall and then be melted and gone by the end of the same day. Don't worry. Your spring is sure to show up soon!

I have equal admiration for both sprinters and distance runners. Have you seen those shot puters? I don't think they even have to work all that hard at it!

Yes, "now" would be nice.

That is true about Colorado. Today we had fog / sleet / sun / cold / warm. I don't remember ever getting "socked in" with anything.
And yes, the field event athletes seem to have just been born that way, without having to work so hard - that's what Wolfgang says about sprinters :)

We're not very Springy around here either, therefore, my house is still a mess. (yeah... that's why...)
I'm a little jealous of your days off. I'm on my 7th day of an 8 day stretch. I'd just like to have a DAY break.
Anyway...
Good luck to Wolfgang this weekend! Tell him to take care of his legs and STRETCH after! ;)

Abby, look at the bright side of this. At least you won't be standing in the cold and snow waving your hands and yelling at the kids to hurry up. And by the time school resumes, you'll be sweating and your hair will be all stringy from the humidity.

Yep.

Hey man, Ice Cream ain't just for sprIng.
'Specially Cherry Garcia; that stuff knows NO boundaries.....

Yes, that is a bright side - not having to work the streets in more blustery cold!

I'd be jealous of my days off too :)
Wolfgang's meet has already been cancelled. *shaking fist!*

I'm a "Cherry Garcia" virgin. Is that redundant?

Why, whatever are you going to do with a whole week off?! More housewifery? I prefer to imagine you doing the beach and flowers thing, too. Oh well, nothing like a clean house to make one feel accomplished. :) EnJoy!

My eyes zoomed in on the "I" in "Spring," too.

Oh, meant to say: No wonder you're such a good runner; you have a little history.

I put new wallpaper on my desktop - beachy and flowery. That may have to do for now. I've always enjoyed running. Wolfgang's got a valid argument - he works harder at it than I did at his age!

Ah, springtime in the Rockies. Can we assume that you have aired out the house already, right? All that time off could lead to trouble. Bike rides, runs through prairie town, track meets. Plenty of time for fun in the sun!
