sittin' around

"You know there's no school on Thursday, right?", June reminded me.

"Oh, right!", I had a flash of recognition.

Good thing she reminded me.  Imagine how silly I would look standing out there in the hideous vest for no reason.

It's teacher/parent conference time at the elementary school, so it's a light day for us outsiders.  I've still got some tuting to do later, but it's not really ruining my slacker attitude just yet.

AND, there's still another day off in the week.  It's only Thursday, and tomorrow is another day literally off the beaten path.  No school for all kids in the district, so Wolfgang and I have planned a little day trip adventure.  It was originally an overnight adventure for the four of us, but that plan ran into a glitch.  A glitch known as China the dog.

Last minute plans to go on an overnighter don't always mesh with a loyal pet.  So, it's a day tripper for just Wolfgang and me, and Magnum and Meego will hold down Fort China.   I asked Wolfgang if he is capable of being up and showered and ready to go at the butt crack of dawn.

He said, "Yes?"  Is that a question?

I expect it to be a fun quest, if we get out the door in time.

This morning's run was the first official frozen of the season.  Thirty-one degrees.  I dusted off the turtleneck.

I used the time away from the crosswalk to play in the sketchbook, keeping with the lazy theme.  I got this cheap manilla paper, and I like the contrast.  It's cheap because it's not white. What's so great about white?

You gonna tell us what you did?! Hmmm... What does a 17 year old enjoy doing with his mom?

I'll bet you whipped out that drawing on cheap manila paper in no time. :) I'm curious to know what he's looking at. And, who is he?

Excellent questions all around! The answers, in order, are:
- Yes
- Mysterious isn't it?
- Creepy street mime
- Felix?

You mean we pay extra to have it white? Nonsense. Especially when your sketch looks so much more interesting on manila.
I, too, hope you share what you did with Wolfgang, and why you have to get up at the butt crack of dawn to do it.
I have yet to run in freezing temps, but it won't be long. I had my ear muffs on today.

Mid-40's on this morning's pre-dawn short run; still shorts weather -- barely! When it's sub-freezing, I usually find something else to do besides run....like stay inside & make banana oatmeal!
I've never seen the butt crack of Dawn. Does she keep her pencils in there? Y'know, like the plumber?

Oh thanks for that. I happen to have a friend named Dawn, and now I can't get that image out...

I hope I have a fun post-trip report. Time will tell.
Ear muffs! Makes me sad for people who never get to run in freezing temps.

This must be a good adventure if you got Wolfgang to agree to get up at the butt-crack of dawn. Can't wait to hear what this is all about!

Oh yeah! I was wondering about the position of his arm. Got it.

The butt-crack of dawn is foreign to me and I want to keep it that way. We were up at the butt-crack of dawn to drive to Indiana, and again to drive back to Florida. It's over-rated and I much prefer having my butt-crack in bed. As for the manilla color: get yourself a white pencil!!! (chalk is preferable to watercolor) and now you can have all the highlights you want in your drawings!

People who run in the freezing temps can hardly be called 'slackers'. There's a whole level of 'slacker' that I'm afraid you may never reach :)
Hope the day trippers are having fun! We also have a Professional Development day here - school for teachers, not kids, so my girls have the day off. It's nice not to have to get up at that butt-crack (!) on a Friday morning for once.

I like the look of the sketch on the cheap paper, better than on white I think.
