layer up!

I'm not sure if this counts as the first snow of the season, but it sure was purdy out this morning at the office.  Us lowlanders just got some "flocking" on the weeds and trees, but the Peak has been snow capped for a while now.  It's obscured by clouds here, but I still felt it photo worthy.

I had to break out the layers too.  Gone are the days when I'm hiding behind the light pole for a sliver of shade!  Now, I'm trying to coax the sun higher into the sky.  I have to get used to having to maneuver in the big bear-huntin' parka.

Magnum and I went for an old folk's walk last night and got soaked as the storm moved in.  My shoes and socks from that walk are still drying this morning.  When we got back, I went on a blanket hunt.  It's time to break out the extra layers for the bed too.  Except, I can't remember where I put the dang thing.

We have this wool blanket that is so heavy and warm.  It goes on hiatus for half the year, but now it's the half where it's time for it to go back to work.  And I can't find it!  My suspicion is that Chaco took it with him and is snuggled in it in his dorm.  The blanket and the missing jeans.

In other fall news, Meego asked when he's too old to go trick-or-treating.   I said, "Last year".  He seems to think he went last year, but I don't think so.  Our guideline is, when elementary school ends, trick-or-treating ends.  What's with the kids bigger than I am coming a-knocking??

But he says he went last year.  He says he was Speedy Gonzales.  I say no.  He was Speedy Gonzales in 5th grade.  I remember the party - how we cleaned up and put the trash in the brim of his sombrero.   A room mom remembers things like that.  I think he's trying to pull a fast one.  (see what I did there?)

What age is too old to trick-or-treat?

We got several inches here. I love the look of flocked trees with colorful leaves.

I'd heard you up-northerners got a decent amount. Yes, the flocking was pretty while it lasted!

Lovely photo. The weather is pretty mild but wet here in the UK.

I can't sleep in a hot room, even in the winter. I turn the heating off and still kick the duvet off all the time. My partner is the opposite. Ha, which makes for great bed mates.

Got our first snow today too! Or so I hear. I didn't look out the window quick enough.

Kids grow up so fast these days, that I guess I'm willing to give a little on the age limit for trick-ortreating. I don't mind the older kids trick or treating as long as they're polite and wear a costume. The ones who show up at the door with no costume and no treat bag are just creepy.

Our internal thermostats aren't that evenly matched either. It's probably something all couples should find out on the first date.

I don't mind the older ones that are accompanying little ones, that's kind of cute actually. It's when there's a gang of big kids. And how do you know if they're even in costume?

Around here, each town sets an age limit. Our town's is 6th grade. Any one older cannot trick or treat. Other towns have 8th grade as their limit. Mario was lucky enough to have a friend in one such town, so she'll be going this year - it'll be her last for sure.
I'd seen on the news that Denver had some snow this morning. I wondered if you had gotten any. It's absolutely beautiful!
I sure hope your blanket shows up. I wonder what else you'll find missing. My missing jeans were finally discovered in my oldest son's closet. He's 6'2 and more than twice my weight. Easy mistake....

The last few weeks here have been warm and wet, but things are about to turn colder... Not "snow" cold, but colder.

I think that trick or treating tends to end at around 10 years old. Halloween parties after that, but without knocking on doors, just answering when the little ones come around.

Those mountains are great - how far away are they?

The towns set an age limit? Interesting... Who enforces? I remember kids in high school with fake ID's to get into the dance clubs. Any fake ID's to get candy??
Found the blanket. Jeans are still on Abby's Most Wanted. Maybe your son thought yours were a denim scarf?

I've no problem with dressing up and going to Halloween parties. But knocking on doors for candy is for the littles in my thinking.

It's about 6 to 7 miles to the foot of those hills. Most of that is burn scar from the summer's fire, which seems so long ago now. Still pretty from this distance.

I don't even think his arm would fit in my pants leg.
When you live in a town of 600 people, you KNOW how old everyone is. In some of the bigger towns, the ones with 1000 people, it's probably a little tougher. But we're all church going citizens and never cheat....

Any snow counts as the first snow :)

I say if speedy wants to go trick or treating it's OK as long as he doesn't drive to do it.

Finally turned "colder" down here yesterday (mid 50s). Actually had to break out a sweatshirt this morning to walk the dogs (I know, that is shorts weather for you guys).

Not sure of the exact age for trick or treating but we always seem to get a few "older" kids show up on our doorstep. Most younger ones are escorted by their parents these days. I agree with everyone else - 10 seems to be the cut off age. Beyond that is just asking for trouble. Of course, we have seen more and more adults getting dressed up for Halloween in interesting "costumes".
