Silver Liningness Sunday

A busy week, mainly marked by back-to-school activities.  Chaco is nicely situated and seems to be loving the Joe College life.  Talked my EAR off as we went shopping on Friday to get other stuff he realized he "needed".  Real classes begin this week, hopefully the honeymoon won't end.

So far, as expected, it's nice that he's out of the house, but close by.  A noticeably large chunk has been taken out of the weekly food bill - or rather been transferred to the university.

In the meantime, I am thankful for the nice batch of students I currently have.  They're a nice well-rounded crop of varied backgrounds and interests.

So while the full schedule is keeping me on my toes, I do enjoy it.  I did learn, however, that I need more balance.  Too much work and no play makes me a dull girl.

Friday afternoon, I returned home to find this in the e-mail from my tutoring service:

Congratulations, Abby! You won!

...You were randomly selected as the Round 3 winner for our Summer Learning Adventure giveaway. Thank you so much for participating in our contest. We always enjoy hearing from our network of parents, students, tutors and fans, and social media provides a great way for us to connect with you...

What?  I won?  What?

I followed the link to the facebook page.  Oh yeah, I vaguely remembered answering a question as part of a contest, never expecting to be "randomly selected".  Cool!  It's not Powerball, but it's $25 at amazon.  I'll take it.

Now, what to buy?  I'm thinking art toys.

I've never won anything, no matter how hard I worked to win it. I think a "random" win is more satisfying.

I've gotten a lot of 2nd places and honorable mentions, so a win is very sweet, random or otherwise.

Haha. I love the comic.
Americans seem to start school a lot sooner than Canadians. Our kids always start after Labour Day, at least her in BC. Glad your boy is settling in well, as is ours. Apparently he cooked salmon steaks for his friend the other night. I was pleased and amazed!

I love it when my 18 year old talks my EAR off. I usually don't listen, but if he's talking that much I know he's happy.
Congrats on your win! Tough decisions ahead of you now...

It is interesting to note how long food and other supplies last once one of the boys leaves home for college. And how the world seems more interesting to them when they are out there experiencing it on their own.

Kudos on the win, even if it is random. A win is still a win.

Winning isn't everything, but it sure is fun. Congrats.

You've already found the silver lining to having a kid away at school! You're acclimating nicely. As sad as I am to have my daughter away at school, I find myself thinking how soon there will be less laundry to do. (A LOT LESS!) Soon there won't be so much long hair on the bathroom floor. Soon there won't be so many shoes in the entryway! There are perks.

$25 bucks at Amazon is a nice prize! Go for the art toys. I'd probably buy books or music.

Was just reminded about this by my boyfriend. He mentioned that Algebra isn't ever used in the real world. Sadly, I've never been good at it, I know i'll probably need it some day but I barely got through it back in high school x.x.
