going through the change

I sold some stuff.

Remember my recent big buy-out of clutter?  I threw away about half of it.  I donated about half of it.  One tote I kept for myself.  I bought it, it was mine to do with what I wanted.  It was high-end toy train stuff.

We got the first starter set for Wolfgang's 2nd birthday, and the set grew from there.  A few more cars here, some extra track there.  Eventually, fancy things like turntables, roundhouses, moving bridges,  and loading cranes joined in.  I couldn't just put it on the thrift store truck.  No, for that, I preferred an open adoption.

I took out an ad, and a nice grandmotherly type came by to purchase it.  So YAY, I made back some of my bribe money.  All in quarters and dimes.

Magnum came home and wanted to know about all the coins on the dresser.

"I sold my trains", I told him.  "A grandma paid me all in coins".

"OOooh", he says - he's into metals these days.  "Did you go through it to look for silver quarters?"

"Uh... no", (like I'm really going to go through that pile of quarters to look for silver ones)

"I'll go through it", he says.  "One silver quarter is worth six bucks".

------------

Okay, so I went through it.  I found a bunch!

... of quarters that are worth 25 cents.

What would you put in the extra effort for? Money? Fame? Accolades? {... fill in the (PG-13 optional) blank ...}?

Haha. Well at least you made some quarters ;)

Probably wouldn't have put the extra effort into silver coins... I'da let the kids do that. Usually anything that I put extra effort in is for myself and my own satisfaction. But accolades are nice too. :)

Mark sorts through quarters and separates the state quarters. Maybe I should tell him to look for silver while he's in there.

Some shiny ones even.

And you do deserve the accolades. Have I told you lately how super duper your comments are?

Hrmmm...wonder how many $6-worth of quarters I've needlessly spent as $.25?

Well, since he's up already!

Magnum even sorts the nickels looking for silver ones. A cashier shorted me a nickel once and I actually called her on it. Normally I would have just let it go, but "my husband likes nickels, heh".

Just don't let it keep you up at night.

Now that's the old school way of paying. You never know what you'll find in a bag of coins. At least you are looking for it now. Who knows how many have crossed your path in the past?

Ooooo nice! Gratz on making a sale and getting a bunch of quarters in the process. I could use some quarters right now xD

Sentimental value. I've been slowly collecting coins (and paper money) since I was a kid. But I wouldn't sell any of it, because I'll want to look over my collection again and again in the future.

I was right! Accolades are nice! Even if they are 'fished for'. I have a warm-fuzzy feeling right now. :)

I always regretted not buying a Brio train set. We had a nice Playmobile one but it was just not the same. However, it was always a big treat for my boys to go into the toy store where a Brio set was set up for them to play with, so maybe owning one would have cancelled out the novelty.
I have a son that used to be really into coins, and I had to go through my change regularly. I'd forgotten about that!

Yeah, this was all Brio stuff. The novelty didn't wear off until they got old.

My husband did find one silver dime ($2.50)!

Now I'm tempted to search through the various boxes and bags of coins we have, however, I think I need to use my time for other things... like reading blogs. :)
