grounded

Happy Illustration Friday on Saturday once again.  First one for 2012!  This week's prompt is "grounded", and I decided to draw an airplane.  On the ground.

I wanted it to be a pretty airplane.  It may be strange to think of a warplane as "pretty", but the Red Baron Fokker, I think, is rather pretty.

About a year ago or so, we watched the movie.  Prior to that, when I would hear "Red Baron", I usually thought of Snoopy and/or pizza.  I liked the movie, though.  I probably wouldn't have chosen it, but the guys wanted to see it, so I watched along and enjoyed it.

Similarly, I appreciate how these Illustration Friday prompts get me to draw or paint things I might not normally draw or paint - like this little Fokker.

A high flying start to 2012! Very nice rendition of that famous Fokker Dr.I. I even see where you found that little fokker. I was always a fan of that plane and the legend of the Red Baron.

I immediately thought of Snoopy, but it brought back fond memories! Thanks for that!

Can't go wrong with planes! WWI aviation was a much different era, though. Most pilots died not at the hands of an adversary, but via failure of their own equipment. They weren't much more than powered kites, those Fokkers.
Snoopy rocked a Sopwith Camel.

nice, a nice tribute to brave, (crazy?) pilots of the great war.

Terrific job on the Fokker! Really nice details. It's nice to get prompts for things we wouldn't normally draw, and also to enjoy movies we may not have picked out ourselves!

I look at your drawing and see patience. So I slow down and enjoy the wander across the page. Great angle you chose, the negative spaces are dancing. I enjoy your work.

Nice drawing! I especially like how the propeller looks and the shadows. Inkcat above, mentioned Secondhand Lions--I loved that movie!
