first love is perfect... until you meet the second one.

Remember the prom?

Kinda.

The subject came up last week as the local high school had their prom this past weekend. A friend of mine's son was going. He's a sophomore and his girlfriend is a (COUGAR!) senior. So four or five of us started a little walk down memory lane.

The ridiculous hairdos, the acres of taffeta, the bad make-up jobs, the awkwardness... For most of the others, prom was not a good memory.

My own prom experiences were nice, however. I went both my junior and senior years. Same date. He and I were an "established couple", so there was no awkwardness and no stress about getting a date. In a lot of ways, that guy was sort of my first husband.

Ah yes, young love. The stomach butterflies, the closeness, the raging

"young lurv"

hormones.... the drama, the tears, the drama, the making up, the drama, the co-dependence, the drama, more drama.

So yeah, eventually it ended. All in a rather emotional blaze of glory. But prom..

Prom was okay.

Your drawing is a good depiction of the words decribing your "young lurv" life. :)

Ugh. My mom just passed on some old mementos to me, one of them being my prom picture. Not good memories. He and I were an on-again/off-again couple and he was really just not good for me. But I felt like I owed it to him to keep trying to make it work. Prom was not fun, and as he did with everything, he ruined it with a bunch of drama.

Kacey goes to prom next weekend, and I hope and pray that she is much smarter and more mature in her "relationship" than I was.

I went to my junior prom with my best friend from HS - he was so much fun, even if he DID take another girl home! (long story)

Senior year wasn't NEARLY as fun...and had I known then what I know now, I'd have just skipped the whole dern thing.

I had a great senior prom as I recall. But, if I had married him...oh dear.

Dirty Larry. Yep.

I didn't go to prom, or homecoming, or any school dances. I know it is hard to tell know, but I was not the confident, mound of virility I have become.
Highschool and prom sucked.

I never went to my high school formal (what they call it down hereabouts), and never felt like I really missed anything (it was an all girls school - it was mainly sitting at a table with the people you already knew while wearing a nice dress). The thing that -does- amuse me is that there are people who are, almost ten years on, still angry at me for not going!
